The Associated Press reports San Francisco Giants RP Julio Mateo was arrested on suspicion of forgery last weekend after police found counterfeit $100 bills in his hotel room. Mateo was also accused of using a fake $100 bill to pay for a cab fare.

ESPNews reports free-agent RP Julio Mateo (Phillies) has pled guilty to charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. These charges stemmed from his May 5 arrest earlier this year after he allegedly assaulted his wife. Mateo was not sentenced with jail time but was admitted into a domestic abuse program.

The Associated Press reports the Philadelphia Phillies have acquired RP Julio Mateo from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for IF Jesus Merchan. Mateo will be assigned to Triple-A Ottawa, although he could join the big-league club soon. He has not pitched in the majors since early May.

The Seattle Times reports Seattle Mariners players have held meetings in recent days — apparently at the request of team management — to figure out whether they'll accept Mariners RP Julio Mateo back on the team despite domestic-violence accusations. Several players came forward with their views on the matter, some favoring Mateo's reinstatement, others arguing strongly against it.

Updating previous items, the Associated Press reports the baseball players' association filed a grievance Thursday, May 17, over the suspension of Seattle Mariners RP Julio Mateo. The grievance also claims Seattle improperly optioned Mateo to the minor leagues. "We're aware that the union has filed a grievance," said Mariners general manager Bill Bavasi. "Of course, the union files a grievance on virtually any action a club takes."

Jim Street, of Mariners.MLB.com, reports Seattle Mariners RP Julio Mateo was placed on the Triple-A Temporarily Inactive List Wednesday, May 17. Mateo was suspended for 10 days by MLB for a domestic incident, but the Mariners have reported they will keep Mateo on the inactive list after his suspension is served. Mateo will remain on the list for an indefinite time and will work with the team's Employee Assistance Program.

Updating a previous item, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports suspended Seattle Mariners RP Julio Mateo publicly apologized for his arrest in New York on May 5 for allegedly assaulting his wife. "I am personally embarrassed by the incident on Saturday morning, which resulted in my arrest and absence from my team," Mateo said. "I recognize that I have also embarrassed my wife and family, my teammates and the entire Mariners organization in front of our fans."
