Wed, 19 Jun 2013 08:17:41 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno Thursday, June 20. Fantasy Tip: Putz will probably need 10-14 days to get back into game shape. He probably won't return to closing duties immediately upon returning, but Heath Bell owners should start to worry. Bell has allowed runs in three straight outings and hasn't recorded a save in nine days.
Mon, 17 Jun 2013 15:19:05 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) said he felt good after a bullpen session Monday, June 17. His next step will be to go on a rehab assignment, which will start Friday, June 21. Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Putz will be returned to closing duties when he's healthy. Until we know more, those that picked up Heath Bell will have to hang onto him. If you're in need of saves and Putz is available, stash him now.
Fri, 14 Jun 2013 20:48:26 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill (hand) faced RP J.J. Putz (elbow) in a simulated game Friday, June 14. He'll then accompany the team to Reno for home games Tuesday, June 18 to Wednesday, June 19, manager Kirk Gibson said.
Sat, 08 Jun 2013 15:19:16 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) threw a bullpen session Saturday, June 8, and said he felt good during the session. Fantasy Tip: Putz appears to be doing well in his rehab but will has some time to go before he can rejoin the bullpen. Heath Bell will continue to handle the closer role until Putz returns.
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 20:26:07 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) is expected to throw a bullpen session Saturday, June 8, as he continues to make progress in his recovery.
Fri, 31 May 2013 06:23:06 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) could throw off a mound Monday, June 3.
Sat, 25 May 2013 16:33:19 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said RP J.J. Putz (elbow) has been playing catch from 90 feet and doing strengthening exercises. The team is taking a cautious approach with Putz's rehab. Fantasy Tip: It is not known when Putz will be able to return to his closer role but it does not appear like he will be returning in the near future. Heath Bell likely will continue to close games until Putz is able to return.
Thu, 09 May 2013 15:51:05 -0700 Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) is dealing with an ulnar collateral ligament sprain in his elbow, and he won't need to undergo surgery. Putz will rest for now, according to manager Kirk Gibson. Fantasy Tip: This is comforting news for the D-backs' bullpen and Putz's fantasy owners. Still, he'll probably miss extended time, but you'll have to use him in your DL spot until he's ready. Heath Bell has first crack at the closing duties, and he was successful in his first chance last night. David Hernandez is worth owning in deep mixed leagues in case Bell falters.
Thu, 09 May 2013 07:23:02 -0700 Updating previous reports, Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) has a sprained ligament, strained flexor pronator and irritated nerve in his right arm. He'll attempt to rehab the injury instead of having surgery. Fantasy Tip: This route is dangerous because its effectiveness is hit or miss. Putz could be back for the final two months of the season, but what can you expect to receive? Will he even have a chance at recapturing his job? If you need the roster space, dump him. If you have a DL spot to stash him in, go ahead and do so.
Wed, 08 May 2013 15:23:41 -0700 Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) is expected to need a major elbow operation, meaning he'll be out for a long time. Fantasy Tip: If this is true, it's even more reason to own David Hernandez or Matt Reynolds in deeper leagues. Heath Bell will get the first crack at taking the ninth-inning duties, mainly because of his experience, but if he faulters, Arizona could go with either Hernandez or Reynolds.
