The Colorado Rockies have placed C Ramon Hernandez (hand) on the 15-day disabled list with a left hand sprain. In a corresponding move, the team selected the contract of C Wil Nieves from Triple-A Colorado Springs. The team also transferred SS Hector Gomez (groin) to the 60-day disabled list.

The Colorado Rockies hope that C Wilin Rosario will be able to catch two to three games per week, with C Ramon Hernandez serving as the starter. If Rosario is not ready to handle the workload, Hernandez will be backed up by Cs Wil Nieves and Jordan Pacheco.

Colorado Rockies C Wil Nieves' one-year deal became official Thursday, Jan. 5. He will make $700,000 if he is on the major league roster and $14,000 a month in the minors.
