The Times Picayune reports the New Orleans Saints have signed street free agent RB Tavian Banks to a one-year contract. Banks has not played since suffering a severe knee injury in 1999, but he worked out for the Saints on Friday and passed his physical. He will compete with James Fenderson for the third running-back spot behind RB Deuce McAllister and backup RB Curtis Keaton.

Jeff Duncan reports for the Times Picayune the New Orleans Saints almost signed former NFL RB Tavian Banks, but he decided to retire due to his knee problems. Banks has not played since tearing all three major ligaments in his knee in 1999. He actually had a good workout for the Saints a few weeks back, but he decided to walk away from the game.
