The St. Louis Cardinals dismissed bullpen coach Dyar Miller. The remaining coaches on the staff will be offered the chance to return for the 2013 season. The team will likely fill the bullpen coach position internally, with Cal Eldred and Blaise Ilsley as candidates.

Cardinals | Dyar Miller away from team

St. Louis Cardinals bullpen coach Dyar Miller has left the team to attend the funeral of his brother, who died in a logging accident Wednesday, March 14. Team broadcaster Cal Eldred, who has been serving as a guest instructor during spring training, will fill in during Miller's absence.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss reports St. Louis Cardinals RP Cal Eldred has retired. Eldred, 38, is opting to spend more time with his family after a career that included an 86-74 career record and nine saves in 341 games.

St. Louis Cardinals RP Cal Eldred (heart) threw two shutout innings for Double-A Springfield in his second rehab outing, and allowed one hit, according to the Associated Press. He is scheduled to pitch again Thursday, June 9, and if all goes well, he will join the parent club Saturday, June 11.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss reports St. Louis Cardinals RP Cal Eldred (heart) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the decision in Double-A Springfield's 8-7 win over Frisco on June 3. It was his first mound appearance in the rehab process after being disabled with a viral infection in his heart in April. Eldred is expected to make his next game appearance June 7 in Springfield.
