The AP’s Paul Newberry reports the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday became only the second team in history to open a game with home runs in the first three at-bats. Facing Cincinnati Reds SP Jeff Austin, SS Rafael Furcal, 2B Mark DeRosa and OF Gary Sheffield opened the game with home runs. The San Diego Padres also accomplished the feat in 1987. The Braves also added a fourth home run in the first inning, tying a franchise record for most home runs in a single inning.

Hal McCoy of The Dayton Daily News reports the Cincinnati Reds optioned pitcher Jeff Austin to Triple-A Louisville and he left without a complaint. "Oh, my goodness, this team is definitely better without me on it right now," said Austin, who gave up four Atlanta Brave homers in a 15-3 loss Wednesday night.
