White Sox | Injury for Alex Rios not sustained in WBC

Tue, 26 Mar 2013 21:31:44 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios (back) said an MRI Monday, March 25, on his lower back showed nothing serious beyond a muscular issue. He remains optimistic he'll be ready to play on Opening Day against the Kansas City Royals April 1. "There's nothing. There's just pain. There's nothing to be worried about," Rios said. He reiterated he did not suffer the injury during his time with Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

Fantasy Tip: Rios is still a risky play for the first scoring period. Manager Robin Ventura was hopeful to use Rios in a game or two before the team breaks camp, but it appears now the earliest Rios would returns is Friday, March 29, or Saturday, March 30, in road exhibition games against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. If he can play in one or both of those games, fantasy owners should have their fears quelled.

White Sox | Alex Rios scratched

Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:40:14 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios (back) was scratched from the lineup Monday, March 25, with more lower back stiffness. Rios will be evaluated after being bothered by his back over the weekend. Rios doesn't believe it'll keep him from playing on opening day, though.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't affect Rios' draft stock unless he's still hurting later this week and can't get into anymore spring games before April 1. He's being selected in the later rounds of mixed leagues.

White Sox | Alex Rios to hit third

Mon, 25 Feb 2013 06:36:47 -0800

Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios is expected to hit third this season. DH Adam Dunn hit third last season, but he has always been distracted by movement on the bases when he hits. So, he'll likely hit fifth, since OF Alejandro De Aza will hit leadoff and look to steal bases.

Fantasy Tip: We don't think this move affects Dunn much. It might hurt his RBI potential a bit with slow-footed Paul Konerko hitting ahead of him, as opposed to 1-2 hitters. But Dunn isn't typically a guy that drives in a ton of runs due to his low batting averages. If Rios can handle the three-hole, it should boost his value a bit.
