Braves | Atlanta resting three starters

Sun, 01 May 2016 10:44:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Daniel Castro, C A.J. Pierzynski and OF Jeff Francoeur are not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Sunday, May 1. OF Kelly Johnson will start at second base and is batting fifth in the lineup. C Tyler Flowers will start at catcher and is batting sixth. 3B Adonis Garcia will start in left field, while 2B Jace Peterson will start at third base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is hitting better over the last few days but is not a great option since he has a .186 average this season. Flowers has gone hitless in his last six at-bats but could be used in two-catcher leagues since he is hitting .281 with four RBI. Peterson has struggled at the plate and can be avoided in all leagues.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur, Drew Stubbs in lineup

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:08:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur and OF Drew Stubbs are in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Wednesday, April 27. Francoeur will start in left field and is batting fifth, while Stubbs will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has picked up at least one hit in five of his last six games with two RBI during that span. Stubbs has recorded five hits in his last 11 games but did go 2-for-3 in his last game. Francoeur likely is more valuable than Stubbs in most leagues and could be a desperation option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Owners should avoid Stubbs in most leagues.

Braves | Adonis Garcia will see outfield starts

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:32:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia will play left field against the majority of right-handed pitchers with 2B/OF Kelly Johnson, 2B Jace Peterson and SS Daniel Castro splitting time between second and third base. OF Jeff Francoeur will play left field against left-handed pitchers with Garcia playing third base.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has a respectable .287/.320/.469 slash line through 269 career plate appearances, and he can provide solid depth in the majority of seasonal leagues. However, he also has just six runs and six RBI to start the season, so there is limited upside. Peterson, Johnson, Castro and Francoeur are nothing more than low-end options in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Braves | Tyler Flowers, Jeff Francoeur set for more time

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 16:13:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Tyler Flowers and OF Jeff Francoeur will both see more chances against left-handed pitchers during the rest of Atlanta's homestand. Atlanta will face three more left-handers in the next six days: Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw Thursday, April 21, New York Mets SP Steven Matz Saturday, April 23, and Boston Red Sox SP David Price Tuesday, April 26. Flowers went 3-for-3 with three RBI against Dodgers SP Alex Wood Tuesday, April 19, to raise his average to .429 (6-for-14) against lefties. Francoeur went 2-for-2 with two RBI against Wood to raise his average against lefties to .333 (3-for-9). Flowers has started five games this year as C A.J. Pierzynski's backup.

Fantasy Tip: Those are small sample sizes for Flowers and Francoeur, and the lefties they'll likely face later this week and next are no pushovers. Flowers' value as a second catcher in two-catcher formats may be slightly on the rise if he continues to see more time. Avoid both against Kershaw in daily formats Thursday.

Braves | Daniel Castro, Jeff Francoeur starting

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:07:34 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Daniel Castro is playing second base and hitting second against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood Tuesday, April 19. OF Jeff Francoeur draws the start in left field and is hitting fifth. OF Kelly Johnson and 2B Jace Peterson will start on the bench against the left-handed pitcher.

Fantasy Tip: Castro is more known for his glove than his bat, although he does have some speed. Francoeur has the ability to run into one every so often. Either way you slice it, neither player has much fantasy value today against the Dodgers. Castro has more fantasy upside if you're looking for a deep sleeper.

Braves | Atlanta to have rotation in LF

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 16:36:41 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson and OFs Jeff Francoeur and Drew Stubbs will be in a three-man rotation in left field with OF Hector Olivera out indefinitely after being charged with assault and battery and being placed on administrative leave by MLB.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson received the nod Wednesday night, but this could be musical chairs in left field for a while. Johnson and Francoeur have some pop in their lumber, and Stubbs has a mildly intriguing mix of speed and power. However, with no consistent playing time available, none of this trio is anything more than NL-only fodder for now.

Braves | Hector Olivera, Jace Peterson resting

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 12:05:11 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Hector Olivera and 2B Jace Peterson are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals left-handed SP Gio Gonzalez Tuesday, April 12. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in left field and is hitting fifth, while 2B Gordon Beckham is at the keystone and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Both Frenchy and Beckham don't have many at-bats to begin the season. Francoeur has some pop and is slightly more attractive in daily games tonight, but both players are nothing more than low-end desperation picks.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur cracks opening day roster

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 13:24:07 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur was told he would start the season on the Major League roster Tuesday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur will have to fight for playing time, so he won't carry value in the majority of seasonal leagues. View him as a late-round target as a depth outfielder in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats after putting together a respectable second half last year with a .275 batting average and .465 slugging percentage through 148 plate appearances.

Braves | Four ATL veterans battling for two spots

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 09:29:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OFs Emilio Bonifacio, Michael Bourn, Jeff Francoeur and Nick Swisher appear to be battling for two reserve outfield spots on the opening day roster.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio, Bourn and Swisher are prime candidates to be traded or released, with Atlanta likely to be on the hook for the bulk of their salaries if they are moved. Francoeur has played well this spring but could be optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett if he agrees to remain with the organization. None of these players are likely to receive enough playing time to make them worth drafting in any fantasy format.

Braves | Frenchy back in Atlanta

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 21:07:36 -0800

The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent OF Jeff Francoeur (Phillies) to a minor-league contract Monday, Feb. 22. The deal includes an invitation to spring training.

Fantasy Tip: The Georgia native is back with the team he broke into the majors with. He posted a .258 average with 13 dingers last season in Philadelphia, but it might be an uphill battle to make the roster. If he does, he might work his way into a platoon situation seeing plate appearances against left-handed pitching. He is only worth a look in the deepest of NL-only fantasy teams even if he breaks camp with the team.
