Braves | Day off for Mallex Smith

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:56:28 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins left-handed SP Adam Conley Friday, May 27. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in left field and is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: The speedster Smith could lose even more playing time against lefties moving forward now that Adonis Garcia is back on the major league roster. Smith remains useful in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for his speed, though. Francoeur is a lefty specialist these days. He's hitting .320 with both of his homers against southpaws and is a deep sleeper in case he runs into one.

Braves | Nick Markakis, Erick Aybar sitting

Thu, 26 May 2016 14:47:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis (rest) and SS Erick Aybar (rest) are not in the lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in right field and batting sixth, while SS Daniel Castro is in at shortstop and hitting seventh opposite Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: If defense counted in fantasy, Castro would have a little more value, but with a dead bat, he really shouldn't be on any rosters. Francoeur, meanwhile, is the definition of a dart throw, as he's capable of providing some pop with the lumber once in a blue moon. Both guys can be left on the wire.

Braves | Several ATL regulars resting Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 11:00:30 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson, C A.J. Pierzynski, OF Mallex Smith are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Saturday, May 21. INF Chase d'Arnaud will bat leadoff and play third base, INF Gordon Beckham will bat second and play second base, OF Jeff Francoeur will play left field and bat cleanup, C Tyler Flowers will start behind the plate and bat sixth and OF Ender Inciarte will bat seventh and play center field.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves are facing a left-handed pitcher this afternoon, which explains why several of their left-handed-hitting position players are on the bench. Beckham and d'Arnaud are a combined 30-for-86 (.349) this season and should be viewed as productive sources of salary cap relief in DFS.

Braves | Ender Inciarte takes a seat

Thu, 19 May 2016 12:21:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP Jeff Locke Thursday, May 19. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in left field and is hitting cleanup, while SS Chase d'Arnaud is at third base and moves up to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud is a desperation DFS flyer despite the nice lineup positioning. Francoeur doesn't have much upside left in his lumber, but he's hitting well against lefties (.279 with his lone home run), and he could be a successful value pick as a deep sleeper tonight.

Braves | Mallex Smith resting vs. lefty

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:23:02 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP Francisco Liriano Wednesday, May 18. OF Ender Inciarte is in center field and batting leadoff, while OF Jeff Francoeur draws into the lineup in left field and is batting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Smith takes a seat after a surprising two-homer performance last night. He'll be a popular waiver wire pickup now that his bat is hot. Inciarte is hitting only .216 on the year with one RBI and no stolen bases. He's a weak daily play against the lefty. Francoeur is hitting .300 with a homer against lefties this year, so he's a sleeper worth considering in this matchup and while hitting cleanup.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur drives in three

Mon, 16 May 2016 20:56:17 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI against the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has been receiving starts against left-handed pitchers and should continue to be part of a platoon. He has a hit in each of the last five games and is a fine starting candidate in daily fantasy leagues when he plays.

Braves | Nick Markakis will be DH

Sun, 15 May 2016 10:38:41 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis will serve as the designated hitter against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Sunday, May 15. OF Jeff Francoeur will start in right field and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis has struggled a bit at the plate over the last seven days but should still be a decent option in deeper mixed leagues. Francoeur has a hit in each of his last three games and could be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur draws into lineup

Fri, 13 May 2016 15:21:28 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in right field and is hitting sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Friday, May 13. OF Nick Markakis is serving as the designated hitter in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has fared much better against southpaws in 2016 and is hitting just .148 with four RBI in 27 at-bats against right-handers. He does have a home run in limited career at-bats versus Volquez, but Frenchy should be viewed as a low-end daily option for your outfield.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur, Gordon Beckham starting

Tue, 10 May 2016 12:04:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in left field and is hitting fifth, while 2B Gordon Beckham draws the start at second base and is hitting sixth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran Francoeur is making it happen against lefties this year, with a .367 average and three RBI in his 30 at-bats against them. He makes for a decent sleeper pick to save money at an outfield spot in daily formats. Beckham just returned from the DL and isn't all that attractive in his first game back.

Braves | Atlanta resting four starters

Sun, 08 May 2016 09:42:37 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson, C A.J. Pierzynski, 2B Reid Brignac and OF Mallex Smith are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin Sunday, May 8. C Tyler Flowers will start at catcher and is batting fourth in the lineup. OF Jeff Francoeur will start in left field and is batting fifth. SS Chase d'Arnaud will start at second base and is batting seventh, while 2B Daniel Castro will start at this base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: None of the players in the starting lineup has posted great numbers this season. Francoeur is hitting .370 with three RBI against left-handed pitchers and could be a desperation option for owners in daily fantasy leagues, but the other three players can be avoided.
