Phillies | Jeff Francoeur snaps out of funk

Mon, 04 May 2015 22:56:37 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Jeff Francoeur had four hits while driving in a pair of runs Monday, May 4, against the Atlanta Braves, his original major league team. He entered the game after 19 straight at-bats without a hit.

Fantasy Tip: The hitless skid was the worst of his career, dropping his average to .169. However, his first four-hit game in three years raised his average back to .214. Despite the big game he is only recommended in FantasyScore at $1,900 (or 3.8% of cap) once this type of stat line becomes the rule, not the exception.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Jeff Francoeur is batting fourth in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Wednesday, April 15.

Phillies | Darin Ruf, Jeff Francoeur starting

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 13:39:05 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OFs Darin Ruf and Jeff Francoeur are both in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox and SP Rick Porcello Wednesday, April 8. Ruf is starting in left field and hitting fifth, while Francoeur is in right field and hitting seventh. SS Odubel Herrera and Grady Sizemore will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Francoeur ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will see occasional playing time in 2015 based on matchups for the Phils. Neither is a strong daily play Wednesday night against Porcello, though, unless you're looking to go cheap for an outfield spot to save money for the rest of your lineup.

Phillies | Domonic Brown to open on DL

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 09:06:14 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (Achilles') will start the season on the disabled list with an Achilles' injury that has kept him out the last two weeks. Brown will be the designated hitter in a minor league game Tuesday, March 31, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., and the Phillies are expecting Brown to miss more than just the opening week of the season. OFs Grady Sizemore, Jeff Francoeur, Jordan Danks and Darin Ruf are candidates to start in right field in place of Brown.

Fantasy Tip: Brown ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is a post-hype prospect that just hasn't put it together yet in Philly. He hit only .235 with 10 home runs and 63 RBI in 2014, meaning he probably wasn't on many fantasy owners' radars. Now that he's injury, he's not a candidate to be drafted in deep mixed leagues. Sizemore seems like the best bet to see the most playing time in Brown's absence, but Philadelphia could easily go with a platoon in right field, too.

The San Diego Padres officially recalled OF Rymer Liriano from Triple-A El Paso Monday, Aug. 11, and designated OF Jeff Francoeur for assignment in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Liriano is one of the club's top position player prospects. He should be scooped up in all NL-only leagues for the time being.

Padres | Carlos Quentin placed on DL

Sun, 27 Jul 2014 17:35:12 -0700

The San Diego Padres have placed OF Carlos Quentin (knee) on the 15-day disabled list because of left knee soreness.

Fantasy Tip: Jeff Francoeur could get most of the playing time in the outfield while Quentin is out of the lineup. He should be an option in NL-only leagues but probably does not have much value in deep mixed leagues. Chris Denorfia could also receive more playing time but there have been rumors that he likely will be traded.

Padres | Cameron Maybin suspended

Wed, 23 Jul 2014 12:14:38 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Will Venable, Jeff Francoeur and Chris Denorfia could receive more playing time with Maybin suspended, but there have been reports that Denorfia could be moved by the trade deadline. Owners in deep leagues could consider adding Venable to their team, while Francoeur and Denforia should only be considered in NL-only leagues for now.
