The Miami Marlins signed free-agent 3B Chone Figgins (Mariners) to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training Friday, Feb. 8. OF Bryan Petersen also cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans.

The Seattle Mariners released 3B Chone Figgins Wednesday, Nov. 28, after designating him for assignment last week. If he signs with another team next season, the amount of his contract will be subtracted from the $8 million the Mariners still owe him.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are "not likely to be a fit" for Seattle Mariners 3B Chone Figgins after he was designated for assignment Tuesday, Nov. 20, according to a source with knowledge of the team's thinking. If Figgins clears waivers and isn't traded, he'll be released, according to Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik. The Angels have 3B Alberto Callaspo as their starting third baseman.

Updating a previous item, Seattle Mariners 3B Chone Figgins is ready for an opportunity with a new team. "I can't take two more years of this," Figgins said. He's hit .259, .188 and .181 in his three seasons with the team, and he played in only 66 games this season.
