Dodgers | Juan Uribe to DL

Wed, 21 May 2014 13:48:04 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed 3B Juan Uribe (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain Wednesday, May 21, and recalled INF Erisbel Arruebarrena from the minors in a corresponding move. Arruebarrena had only a .252 on-base percentage and a .302 slugging percentage at Double-A Chattanooga this year. INFs Justin Turner and Chone Figgins are expected to split time at third base in Uribe's absence.

Fantasy Tip: Arruebarrena will likely be mainly for defensive purposes late in games. He shouldn't be a target in fantasy leagues. Turner and Figgins will cancel each other out for the most part. Only look to one of them if you're desperate for an infielder in NL leagues.

Dodgers | Juan Uribe could hit DL

Wed, 21 May 2014 10:03:53 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Juan Uribe (hamstring) could land on the disabled list after he aggravated his strained right hamstring Tuesday, May 21. Uribe said this time the injury is worse. His hamstring ailment kept him out for five games previously. If he needs to go on the DL, INFs Justin Turner and Chone Figgins will likely be used at third base in his absence. Turner is hitting .230 and Figgins just .211.

Fantasy Tip: Turner and Figgins would only be options for desperate NL-only managers, especially since they'll likely split playing time at the hot corner.

Dodgers | Juan Uribe out with strained hammy

Fri, 09 May 2014 08:53:33 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Juan Uribe (hamstring) left the game early with a strained right hamstring Thursday, May 8, but the team is describing his injury as "mild." The team isn't putting him on the disabled list, but manager Don Mattingly said it's too early to tell how long Uribe will be out. Uribe has hit .306 with four home runs and 17 RBIs this season. INFs Justin Turner or Chone Figgins would be the replacements if Uribe misses extended time.

Fantasy Tip: Turner and Figgins could easily figure into a platoon situation at third if Uribe lands on the DL. They'd mainly be replacements in NL-only affairs.

Dodgers | Dee Gordon mentally prepared as candidate for 2B

Tue, 18 Mar 2014 12:37:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Dee Gordon appears to be in line for the starting second base duties when the team plays a two-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia this weekend after a solid spring performance. Gordon hit .286 with four triples and nine steals without being caught in camp. Gordon could platoon with 2B Chone Figgins, with Gordon facing right-handers, according to manager Don Mattingly.

"My mindset now is to be the best player I can be for the Dodgers. It's not all about me. I'm definitely mentally tougher than I was. I'm not going to sit here and whine, say I got treated wrong. I'm going to adapt to the situation and be a better player." 2B Alexander Guerrero is now expected to start the year in the minors as he continues to make the shift from shortstop to second base.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is a post-hype prospect that is a real sleeper candidate in mixed and NL-only drafts. Folks will start to catch on that Guerrero was a bit overvalued, at least early this year. If he can improve on his on-base percentage adjustments in the minors last year and make some more contact, Gordon can be a poor-man's Billy Hamilton.

Dodgers | Open competition at 2B

Fri, 28 Feb 2014 08:36:24 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said the starting second base job is up in the air between 2Bs Alexander Guerrero, Dee Gordon, Chone Figgins and Justin Turner.

Fantasy Tip: This might just be coach speak by Mattingly. All along it's been expected that Guerrero is the favorite for the job. That could change with a poor spring performance, however. Guerrero is risky because we don't know much about him. In mixed leagues, he's safer as middle infield insurance.
