Oakland Athletics RPs Jim Johnson, Luke Gregerson, Sean Doolittle and Dan Otero are each considered locks for the bullpen for manager Bob Melvin. Left-handed RP Fernando Abad is also expected to get one of the vacant bullpen spot, with RP Evan Scribner looking like a good bet for another spot as a long reliever. That likely leaves on spot from a group of Ps Drew Pomeranz, Josh Lindblom, Joe Savery and Arnold Leon. Lindblom is believed to have the edge in the battle.

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin is not worried about finding playing time for all of his outfielders, saying there will be plenty to go around for OF's Chris B. Young, Yoenis Cespedes, Seth Smith, Josh Reddick and Coco Crisp. "There are enough at-bats for everyone," Melvin said. "It's how they're allotted that's the difficult part. We're set up for injuries if something were to happen along those lines, but I think it's going to be more of a feel thing."

The Oakland Athletics agreed to a two-year contract extension with manager Bob Melvin Monday, Jan. 14, that will carry him through the 2016 season. Financial terms of the extension were not given.

Oakland Athletics 3B Josh Donaldson was demoted to Triple-A Sacramento to make room for 3B Luke Hughes on the roster. Although the move is presumably to get Donaldson more seasoning at the plate, Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Donaldson will continue to split time between third base and catching.

The Oakland Athletics are going to give SP Jordan Norberto every chance to break camp with the club this year as a reliever. "With his stuff and the amount of starters we have, if he's going to make an impact, it's going to be in the bullpen," manager Bob Melvin said. "It's up to him to be able to go out there and calm down a little bit, think a little bit slower."
