Oakland Athletics 3B Josh Donaldson was demoted to Triple-A Sacramento to make room for 3B Luke Hughes on the roster. Although the move is presumably to get Donaldson more seasoning at the plate, Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Donaldson will continue to split time between third base and catching.

The Oakland Athletics are going to give SP Jordan Norberto every chance to break camp with the club this year as a reliever. "With his stuff and the amount of starters we have, if he's going to make an impact, it's going to be in the bullpen," manager Bob Melvin said. "It's up to him to be able to go out there and calm down a little bit, think a little bit slower."

The Oakland Athletics have agreed to a three-year extension with manager Bob Melvin, according to two sources close to the situation. Melvin has gone 42-49 after Bob Geren was fired.

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin will experiment with a six-man pitching rotation for at least one turn before the All-Star break. SP Rich Harden returned to active duty on Friday, July 1, leaving SP's Harden, Josh Outman, Gio Gonzalez, Brandon McCarthy, Trevor Cahill and Guillermo Moscoso all ready to start.

The New York Mets are hoping to name their new manager as early as Sunday, Nov. 21, according to The Associated Press. Bob Melvin, Chip Hale, Wally Backman and Terry Collins are the finalists for the job.

The New York Mets have narrowed down their managerial search to three candidates, Terry Collins, Clint Hurdle and Bob Melvin, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin. Each candidate is expected to come back for a second interview. The fourth potential candidate is third base coach Chip Hale. St. Louis Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo could be a surprise candidate as well.
