Japanese League | Zuleta signs with Chiba Lotte

JapaneseBaseball.com reports the Chiba Lotte Marines have signed former Boston Red Sox minor league 1B Julio Zuleta to a two-year contract worth an estimated $5.2 million. Zuleta had been in talks with the Softbank Hawks, but negotiations broke down.

Ian Browne, writing for RedSox.MLB.com, reports Boston Red Sox lost minor league 1B Julio Zuleta, who agreed to a contract with the Fukoka Diehawks of the Japanese League. Zuleta, who had hit twelve home runs for Triple-A Pawtucket, had a clause in his contract that allowed him to pursue an opportunity in Japan. "We hate to lose him," Red Sox manager Grady Little said. "But he's a guy that we didn't think was ready to help us right at this time.

Red Sox | Trio Reassigned

The Boston Globe reports The Boston Red Sox reassigned Earl Snyder, Julio Zuleta and Lou Collier to their minor league camp on Friday. Snyder, an infielder, was hitting .273 with two home runs this spring. Zuleta, who has played at first base, the outfield and designated hitter this spring, was hitting .367 with one homer. Collier, an outfielder, was batting .282 with a homer and a triple.
