Rockies | Jose Reyes decision next week?

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 13:26:09 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes could have a decision on his domestic-violence case by next week.

Fantasy Tip: Charges against Reyes were dropped in Hawaii, but MLB has been investigating the event separately and are still expected to suspend Reyes. The potential suspension is expected to be for at least 30 games. Reyes owners must hold onto him, at least in deep mixed and NL-only affairs. But Trevor Story's hot start could force Colorado in another direction when Reyes is able to return. Stay tuned.

Rockies | Judge approves dismissal for Jose Reyes

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 19:20:05 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes had his domestic abuse charge dismissed by a Hawaii judge Monday, April 11. A deputy prosecuting attorney said the judge signed off on the move but will give prosecutors about two years to refile charges if Reyes' wife elects to cooperate. Reyes was arrested Oct. 31 at a Hawaiian resort. Reyes can still ask the judge to dismiss the case outright, but his defense attorney said that a motion requesting that has not yet been filed.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes might still not be out of the woods, as commish Rob Manfred could still elect to penalize the All-Star shortstop. With Trevor Story tearing the cover off of the ball, the Rockies might not be in as big of a hurry to get Reyes back, although fantasy owners are likely antsy.

Rockies | Owner talks Jose Reyes situation

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 12:56:57 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes should receive a decision on his pending suspension soon, but Rockies owner Dick Montort wants to know what happened and said "if he did something wrong, he should pay for it," in regards to Reyes.

"We knew when we made the trade, the only reason Toronto gave up those three pitchers was because we took an equal salary back from them. We knew that going in. We knew that was what we were going to deal with. Now, because of the incidents that happened, it makes it a little more difficult. But we're going to work our way through it."

Fantasy Tip: This is a complex situation on all levels. As it stands, Reyes is likely facing a suspension of at least 30 games, and while he is a worthwhile stash in all fantasy formats, he is also a declining talent entering his age-33 season. With Trevor Story's early success this season, the rebuilding Rockies might not be in any rush to give Reyes anything close to full-time at-bats, either. Plus, Reyes will likely need a spring training and minor league stint before returning to the majors. Given the obstacles ahead, Reyes buyers should test the market.

Rockies | Jose Reyes decision coming soon?

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 16:06:18 -0700

A decision on a penalty for Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes is expected in a matter of "days not weeks," according to commissioner Rob Manfred.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes wasn't formally charged, but major league baseball is still expected to discipline him. Expect Reyes to receive a suspension of more than 30 games. He's still worth stashing in the majority of fantasy formats, though, but the emergence of shortstop phenom Trevor Story has made Reyes a forgotten man for now. Stay tuned.

Rockies | Jose Reyes likely to face suspension

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 09:09:13 -0700

Updating previous reports, Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes will likely be suspended, and punishment might not be announced by the start of the season, a source with knowledge said. Reyes' situation is viewed similarly to New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman's domestic situation, who was suspended the first 30 games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: There is still no way to know how long Reyes will miss. He hasn't had a spring training and will likely spend much of April in extended spring training preparing for when he's eligible to play. Reyes is worth stashing because of the ballpark and the drought of stolen bases in fantasy baseball.

Rockies | Jose Reyes remains on admin leave

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 14:18:54 -0700

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes will remain on administrative leave until commissioner Rob Manfred completes a domestic violence investigation, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday, March 30.

Fantasy Tip: Reiterating a previous tip, Reyes is facing a lengthy suspension, and he may not have a job to return to when eligible to play. He remains a viable stash candidate in the majority of seasonal leagues, but his outlook is incredibly murky with a wide range of potential outcomes. Those averse to risk should likely pass on draft day.

Rockies | Jose Reyes to have charges dropped

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 12:24:09 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes' domestic abuse charge is going to be dropped because his wife is not cooperating, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kerry Glen said Wednesday, March 30. Reyes is expected to receive a harsher punishment from Major League Baseball than New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman, though, because Reyes was charged and there was significant physical evidence.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman received a 30-game ban, so Reyes could be facing a suspension that could cost him a substantial portion of the season. Plus, shortstop Trevor Story has impressed the Rockies in spring training and could make Reyes expendable, if the veteran Reyes isn't already viewed that way within the organization. Reyes is a speculative stash candidate in the majority of seasonal leagues, but there is a wide margin of outcomes possible for him. Stay tuned for updates.

Rockies | Jose Reyes ruling must wait

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 13:16:03 -0800

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes's lengthy suspension isn't expected to be announced by commissioner Rob Manfred until Reyes' legal issues are resolved in court.

Fantasy Tip: Aroldis Chapman was just handed a 30-game suspension, and he wasn't even charged in a domestic violence case. That doesn't bode well for Reyes, and he could be suspended for around half a season. Prepare for the worst. This makes Reyes extremely risky, and he's probably not worth the chance in shallow mixed leagues. Will Trevor Story see his chance sooner than expected?

MLB | Suspensions could be handed down Tuesday

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 09:04:34 -0800

The cases involving New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman, Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes and Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig could have a ruling as soon as Tuesday, March 1, according to's Pedro Gomez.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes was the only one of the three that was actually charged in his domestic violence case, so he figures to receive the lengthiest suspension. Keep an eye on what happens this week. Chapman will probably still be a top-three fantasy closer despite the threat of missed time. Puig's price has fallen because of injuries last year, but he's a risk/reward player worth gambling on in the middle rounds.

Rockies | Jose Reyes on paid leave

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:13:35 -0800

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes has been put on paid leave by Major League Baseball pending the completion of his domestic violence case in Hawaii. Commissioner Rob Manfred will decide whether to discipline Reyes after his criminal case is concluded.

Fantasy Tip: It seems as though Reyes could be in line for a hefty suspension. Plan accordingly in fantasy drafts. Prospect Trevor Story could be forced up to the majors sooner than expected, but the Rockies could also sign free-agent Ian Desmond as a temporary stop gap. Desmond's fantasy value would be on the rise hitting at Coors Field.
