Detroit Tigers 3B Jhonny Peralta will take over at third base for the team while they await the return of 3B Brandon Inge (hand), according to MLB.com's Jason Beck. Peralta will likely become an option to play shortstop when Inge returns. The team has been platooning SSs Ramon Santiago and Danny Worth at short.

Detroit Tigers SS Ramon Santiago (ankle) had his legs taken out by Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Rusty Ryal while turning a double play at second base Sunday, June 20, according to The Associated Press. Santiago appeared to injure his left ankle on the play, but remained in the game after being attended to by Detroit's training staff.

Detroit Tigers OF Carlos Guillen (hamstring) has been working out at second base and will become the team's regular second baseman once he is activated from the disabled list, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck. Guillen last played the position at the major league level in 1999 with the Seattle Mariners. For the time being, IFs Ramon Santiago, Don Kelly and Danny Worth will split time at second base.

John Lowe, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Tigers 3B Brandon Inge (knees) is expecting to be ready for the start of the 2010 season after undergoing offseason surgery on both of his knees. However, his rehab plan doesn't call for him to play in an exhibition game until two weeks before the start of the regular season. "I can push through any amount of pain, and my tendency is to push through it and get better quicker," Inge said. "But they really stressed to me that if I tried to push through it, I could get the tendonitis right back. So I have to take it slow." 2B Ryan Raburn, IF Don Kelly or 2B Ramon Santiago could fill in at third if Inge is not ready.

The Detroit News reports the Detroit Tigers re-signed 2B Ramon Santiago to a two-year deal Wednesday, Dec. 16, avoiding arbitration. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tony Paul, of The Detroit News, reports Detroit Tigers SS Adam Everett and 2B Ramon Santiago will share time at shortstop next season, with Everett receiving the majority of starts. Manager Jim Leyland said he expects both players to receive the same amount of playing time as they did in 2009.
