Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said free-agent OF Magglio Ordonez (Tigers) and 2B Carlos Guillen (Tigers) are unlikely to return to the team next year. "Magglio and Carlos — tremendous pros who've done a lot for our organization," Dombrowski said. "A couple of guys who have been integral parts. Odds are likely they won't be back." The team will make a push to re-sign 2B Ramon Santiago, but they expect other teams to be in the mix as well. RP Joel Zumaya and SP Brad Penny are also unlikely to be re-signed.

Detroit Tigers 2B Ramon Santiago has backed away from the plate and is using more of his core to start his swing, which has allowed him to square the ball up more often. He is hitting .318 (14-for-44) with three home runs and 11 RBIs since Aug. 14. "When you play more, it's easier to make more adjustments," Santiago said. "Baseball is a game of adjustments. Now I'm playing more."
