Blue Jays | Ramon Santiago hurt

Sun, 15 Mar 2015 15:06:10 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Ramon Santiago (collarbone) suffered a collarbone injury in a diving incident, and his status is not determined for future games.

Fantasy Tip: It's safe to assume Santiago will be out for a stretch. Santiago would have been likely to back up Jose Reyes at shortstop and maybe even start here and there given Reyes' tendency to get hurt. Santiago now carries little fantasy value.

Reds | No Todd Frazier, Devin Mesoraco

Fri, 15 Aug 2014 13:47:32 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier and C Devin Mesoraco are not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 15, against the Colorado Rockies. C Brayan Pena is starting behind the plate and batting fifth, and 2B Ramon Santiago is playing third base and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Mesoraco and Fraizer from your daily lineups. This leaves the already depleted Reds lineup without its two best hitters. If ever there was a time to put Franklin Morales in a fantasy lineup, it is tonight. Morales' price in daily games makes him a high-reward option tonight, but obviously he is very risky.

Reds | Brandon Phillips injury update

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 13:07:52 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (thumb) has a ligament tear in his left thumb, and he will have surgery Friday, July 11.

Fantasy Tip: To put the recovery timetable in perspective, Bryce Harper missed 57 games and almost two months with a torn ligament. Phillips' season could be over. Skip Schumaker and Ramon Santiago will see additional playing time. Schumaker is an option in NL-only leagues.

Reds | Joey Votto likely to go on DL

Fri, 16 May 2014 09:15:43 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (knee) underwent an MRI exam on his left knee Friday, May 16, and he's likely to go on the disabled list, according to sources. It is the same knee that he had surgery on back in 2012.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a serious injury for Votto that could keep him out well beyond the 15-day DL stint. Plan for the worst. In Votto's absence, perhaps the Reds will slide Todd Frazier over to first base and insert Ramon Santiago in at the hot corner. Skip Schumaker is another option to fill in wherever needed at the corner infield spots. Santiago and Schumaker are only mildly attractive options in NL-only leagues with increased playing time.

Reds | Billy Hamilton can help at shortstop

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 19:39:48 -0700

The Cincinnati Reds could break camp without a shortstop to back up SS Zack Cozart. INF Ramon Santiago is a candidate as a backup shortstop, but he is no lock to make the team, nor is INF Chris Nelson. 3B Todd Frazier was drafted as a shortstop, and he could be used to fill in. OF Billy Hamilton has also played 312 minor league games at shortstop, and manager Bryan Price acknowledged Hamilton could see time there if needed.
