Tigers | Miguel Cabrera to take BP

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 09:27:25 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) ran on an anti-gravity treadmill before the game Sunday, July 26, and he will take batting practice with the team before their series against the Tampa Bay Rays starts Monday, July 27, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) could be back in the middle of August if everything goes according to plan. As one of the best hitter's in the game, he can still make a pretty big impact for the remaining month and a half of the season as long as he doesn't have any recurrence of calf problems.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera due back soon

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 05:43:57 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) could be back around Aug. 15, from his calf injury.

Fantasy Tip: This would put Miggy on the front end of his timetable to return and could keep the team from becoming sellers at the trade deadline. Keep Cabrera stashed on the DL.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera takes batting practice

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 07:47:29 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) was able to participate in some batting practice Friday, July 24, and also took some throws at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) is still probably still a few weeks away from returning and may need to go on a rehab assignment. Cabrera is one of the best players in the league and probably will be a starting option most nights on FantasyScore when he returns to the lineup.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera not cleared yet

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 14:53:57 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) said he is making progress in his recovery from a calf injury but has not been cleared for baseball activities at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) probably is still several weeks away from returning, so owners should continue to monitor his progress. Marc Krauss ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Jefry Marte ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will continue to share time at first base but are not strong options on FantasyScore.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera receiving therapy

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 17:14:45 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) continues to receive physical therapy for his strained left calf, and he received a platelet-rich plasma injection Wednesday, July 8, according to head athletic trainer Kevin Rand. Cabrera is currently wearing a walking boot to help elevate his heel and reduce stress on his calf. The Tigers are hoping he can return in six to eight weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) needs to be stashed in all leagues. He could return in mid- to late-August, depending on how his body responds when he resumes baseball activities. A combination of Jefry Marte and Marc Krauss is filling in at first base for now, but they are weak options in all fantasy formats.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera not yet working

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 21:14:33 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) has not started to work on his leg, as he is trying to keep the swelling down in his strained left calf with ice. He has a six-week timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: With Cabrera on the shelf it appears minor-league journeyman Jefry Marte ($2,900; or 5.8% of cap) will get a crack at some meaningful at-bats at the big league level and he could emerge as a low-end FantasyScore play if he hits like he did Wednesday.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera out six weeks

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 07:29:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) will miss around six weeks because of a Grade 3 calf strain, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to monitor Cabrera's ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) progress to see when he will be able to return to the lineup. Alex Avila ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) will receive the first chance to start at first base, but it is not known who will fill the role on a regular basis. Owners on FantasyScore probably should pass on Avila for the time being.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera officially placed on DL

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 06:24:57 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) was placed on the disabled list with a left calf strain Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: This was expected, and Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) leaves a big hole in the heart of the Tigers' lineup and fantasy rosters. Seasonal owners will want to check back for updates on his recovery timeline and be thankful, in terms of replacement value, first base is arguably the deepest position in most formats. Victor Martinez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is likely to receive the majority of starts at first base while Cabrera is sidelined. Andrew Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Bryan Holaday ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) could also work into the mix occasionally.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera could land on DL

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 19:51:42 -0700

Updating previous reports, Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) will not play against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, July 4. Manager Brad Ausmus said he could land on the 15-day disabled list but the team is awaiting a doctor's opinion.

Fantasy Tip: The team will know more about Cabrera's ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) status once the results of the MRI exam are revealed. If he is placed on the disabled list, he would be ineligible to return to action until after the All-Star break. DH/1B Victor Martinez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) appears to be in line to see most of the action at first base while Cabrera is sidelined, although Andrew Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Bryan Holaday ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) have also seen playing time there this season.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera to undergo MRI exam

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 18:05:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) suffered a strained left calf while running the bases against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 3. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) went 2-for-2 Friday before injuring himself on the basepaths during an apparent hit-and-run in the fourth inning. INF Andrew Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) replaced Cabrera at first base, although DH/1B Victor Martinez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is more likely to start at the position if he is forced to miss multiple games. Keep checking back for further updates on Cabrera's status.
