Tom Kowalski reports for mlive.com the Detroit Lions are working on an injury settlement with veteran RB Amp Lee (hamstring). It's still possible, though, that Lee could return to the Lions before the season is over. WR Larry Foster, who has a sprained ligament in his left knee, will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. RT Aaron Gibson left practice early Monday with a bad headache. His status for this week's game is unknown.

The Free Press reports Detroit Lions WR Herman Moore (shoulder) and TE David Sloan (broken hand) are expected to play Thursday night in the final pre-season game against Tennessee. WR Germane Crowell (knee) probably won't play until the regular season. RB Amp Lee may finally see some action. He was a late scratch last week when he said his injured hamstring wasn't ready. Lee will spend time this week with the hamstring specialists who assisted FB Brock Olivo earlier in training camp.

Curt Sylvester reports for the Free Press Detroit Lions SS Ron Rice (toe) will not play this week. Lamar Campbell is expected to start at strong safety in Rice's place. The Lions medical staff apparently doesn't think the injury will keep Rice out of the Sept. 9 season opener at Green Bay. WR Herman Moore (shoulder), TE David Sloan (hand) and RB Amp Lee (hamstring) may see action in Saturday's pre-season game. G Stockar McDougle (groin) and DT Shaun Rogers (ankle) definitely will play.

Updating a story from yesterday, the Free Press reports Detroit Lions SS Ron Rice may only have a jammed big toe as a result of a play in practice yesterday. Results of his X-rays have not been revealed. "We don't think that it's broken, but we don't know," coach Marty Mornhinweg said. "He got it jammed." RB Amp Lee (hamstring) may see some action in Saturday's pre-season game. He has yet to play in the pre-season.

Curt Sylvester reports for the Free Press Detroit Lions CB Bryant Westbrook (Achilles') apparently will be on the Lions' 53-man roster when the season begins and might even have a chance of playing early in the season. Coach Marty Mornhinweg said Westbrook is progressing "very well." Several injured Lions, including DE Tracy Scroggins (knees), rookie DT Shaun Rogers (ankle), WR Herman Moore (shoulder), TE David Sloan (hand), RB Amp Lee (hamstring) and OL Stockar McDougle (groin) saw their workload in practice increase on Tuesday. WR/KR Larry Foster (sore right Achilles') practiced, while WR Germane Crowell still is resting his right knee.

Curt Sylvester reports for the Free Press Detroit Lions RB Lamont Warren, out of football in 2000, appears to be the leading candidate to back up RB James Stewart. He has been a steady performer in training camp and has made the most of his opportunities in the pre-season, with six carries for 52 yards (8.7 yards an attempt) and four receptions for 33 yards. With Warren, Sedrick Irvin, Reuben Droughns and Amp Lee competing for the backup job, coach Marty Mornhinweg probably won't make a decision until the end of the pre-season.

The Detroit News reports Detroit Lions head coach Marty Mornhinweg said RB James Stewart has a sore hamstring. He will start but won't play the entire first half. Mornhinweg said the team will take advantage of the situation and take a good look at their other halfbacks on the roster. Lamont Warren, Sedrick Irvin, Amp Lee and Reuben Droughns are all expected to see action during this weekend’s pre-season game.

Curt Sylvester reports for the Free Press the Detroit Lions expect a spirited competition for the team's No. 2 RB slot. The candidates are Amp Lee, Lamont Warren, Reuben Droughns and Sedrick Irvin. After spending last season in the doghouse, Irvin is now enjoying a fresh start with a new staff. "It's a great opportunity for me," Irvin said Friday, the first day of full-squad workouts. Sedrick is right in the ballpark as far as our running back situation," said coach Marty Mornhinweg. Irvin likes the team's new West Coast offense, which includes a lot of passes to running backs.
