Bears | Lending A Helping Hand

Sat, 28 Apr 2001 13:37:10 -0700

The Sun Times reports when rookie RB Anthony Thomas arrives at the team's facility today for mini-camp, veteran RB James Allen will be waiting for him so he can lend him a helping hand. "I'm going to help him the way Ronnie Harmon, Eddie George and all those guys helped me. That's my job as a veteran player," said Allen. The two are expected to compete for the Bears starting RB slot. Thomas at 6-1, 226-pounds might not be as quick as Allen, but is considered more powerful and elusive and a better scoring threat in the red zone. The biggest knock on Allen is that he lacks finishing speed. Allen doesn't buy it, but he has spent most of the off-season working to improve his speed.
