Steelers | Parker breaks Super Bowl record

The Associated Press reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Willie Parker broke the Super Bowl record for longest run when he ran for a 75-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Former Los Angeles Raiders RB Marcus Allen held the previous record with a 74-yard run in 1984.


Rams | Faulk moves up the NFL rushing list

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Marshall Faulk passed Hall of Fame RB Marcus Allen to take over the ninth spot on the all-time NFL career rushing list with his performance Sunday, Dec. 18.


Jets | C. Martin facing offseason surgery; uncertain 2006

Ken Berger, of Newsday, reports New York Jets RB Curtis Martin (knee) might need surgery on his injured right knee after the season. Martin's 2006 status with the team is undecided. While Martin could be released with significant cap savings, right now the team envisions bringing him back in less than a featured role. Martin still could be productive, and his leadership would be valuable, in a role similar to the one RB Marcus Allen played in his final years with the Kansas City Chiefs.


Rams | M. Faulk Moves Up Career Total Yards List

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports with 145 total yards in the Sunday, Sept. 12, game against the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams RB Marshall Faulk moved past former NFL RB Marcus Allen on the career total yards list with 17,668 yards.


Steelers | Bettis Reaches Milestone

Teresa Varley, of Steelers.com, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jerome Bettis became the fifth player in NFL history to surpass 3,000 career carries Sunday, Nov. 23, against the Cleveland Browns. The four other running backs to accomplish this feat are: Emmitt Smith (4,117), Walter Payton (3,838), Barry Sanders (3,062) and Marcus Allen (3,022). "Coach (Dick) Hoak came over and congratulated me," said Bettis. "That's big. I've been very blessed and fortunate to be able to play that long and take that many shots. With 3,000 carries, that's 3,000 hits. I may have run out of bounds 10 or 15 times, but other than that, I got about 2,950 hits."


Raiders | Fact Fact: Marcus Allen

SportsTicker reports that former Los Angeles Raiders’ RB Marcus Allen was elected into the 2003 Class of the NFL’s Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Allen is the only player who has won a Heisman Trophy, NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl MVP award. Allen played with the Raiders from 1982 to 1992 and finished his career with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1993 to 1997.


NFL 2003 Hall of Fame Class Announced

SportsTicker reports that the results are in: five players and one former coach have been voted as inductees in the 2003 Class of the NFL Hall of Fame. RB Marcus Allen, DE Elvin Bethea, OL Joe DeLammiellure, WR James Lofton and coach Hank Stram were elected and will be inducted at ceremonies in Canton, Ohio on 3 Aug., 2003.


NFL | Allen Among First-Time Nominees for HOF

The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Marcus Allen is among a few first-time nominees for this year’s Hall of Fame class. NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, RB Herschel Walker, QB Boomer Esiason, WR Steve Tasker, TE Brent Jones, OL Gary Zimmerman, DL Richard Dent, and LB Sam Mills will join Allen as first-time nominees. Also on the list are coaches Bill Parcels and Hank Stram. All finalists from last year who were not selected automatically make it to this year’s finals. The hall's board of electors will choose the new members on January 25, 2003, one day before the Super Bowl.


NFL | Another NFL Today Change

The latest analyst to join the CBS NFL Today studio show will be ex-Fox analyst and former coach Jerry Glanville. CBS expects to complete its' revamping of the show by adding Randy Cross to the studio show for 1999. Cross will no longer be a game analyst. Brent Jones who was in the studio last season is expected to become a game analyst and Marcus Allen is expected to become a reporter for the show.
