Rodgers passed for 304 yards and three touchdowns.

Sat, 08 Jul 2006 10:30:34 -0700 Mark Kreidler, of the Sacramento Bee, reports former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo could return to the NFL if he were to gain the approval of other owners. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said DeBartolo could come to the NFL with a team he wanted to buy and a deal to make it happen and only need 24 of the league's 32 owners to OK it. Former 49ers QB Joe Montana said, "I think he's wanted to get back in for a long period of time. I just hope other people are ready to accept him who have been in the NFL because he will bring some excitement back as a team owner. He'll be more dedicated than you can imagine." Montana said he would not rule out being part of a DeBartolo ownership group if the right opportunity came along.
Tue, 07 Feb 2006 05:17:43 -0800 Kevin Lynch, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports former NFL QB Joe Montana defended his decision to decline an invitation to be a part of a Super Bowl pregame ceremony with past Super Bowl MVPs Monday, Feb. 6. The office of Peter Johnson, Montana's agent at IMG, sent out a statement in response to the media fervor prompted by The Chronicle report that Montana skipped the ceremony for money reasons. "Joe Montana was in Detroit for Super Bowl activities on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday prior to the game, but always had planned to return home before the weekend to be with his family," the statement read. "He fulfilled his promise to attend son Nathaniel's basketball game on Friday night and son Nicholas' game on Sunday, and then be home with his family to watch the Super Bowl." Montana expounded on that statement on ESPN's "Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith." When asked directly by Smith if he had asked the NFL for appearance money, Montana said no.
Mon, 06 Feb 2006 17:36:25 -0800 ESPN.com reports former San Francisco 49ers QB Joe Montana turned down his invitation to Super Bowl XL over money, according to Newsday and the San Francisco Chronicle. The NFL invited the Super Bowl MVPs from the previous 39 Super Bowls, but Montana was one of three not in attendance. The former MVPs were given $1,000 for incidental expenses while in Detroit, along with other amenities such as tickets to the game, car rentals, and plane tickets. Montana reportedly asked for a guarantee of $100,000 in appearance money.

Montana didn't rule out coaching in some capacity when he assisted at the team's spring game. Montana and Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis knew each other as students and graduated from Notre Dame in 1978. So far Weis has remained mum on who his selection might be for the position.

McNabb knocked Hall of Fame QB Joe Montana out of the NFL record book. Montana completed 22 consecutive passes against the Cleveland Browns (five) on Nov. 27, 1987 and the Green Bay Packers (17) on Dec. 6, 1987.

The only other quarterback who started his career since 1970 that has a better record (minimum 50 games as a starter) is former San Francisco 49ers QB Joe Montana, who was 117-47, a winning percentage of .713.
