The San Diego Union Tribune reports that after Chargers coach Mike Riley and GM Bobby Beathard talked, they have decided not to pursue veteran QB Dave Kreig. "Mike just said he doesn't want to do it," said Beathard. "He feels right now that Craig Whelihan has come along and that he doesn't see someone on the tapes who is better or offers more."

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Chargers will have QB Mark Rypien in for a visit next week. The team is thinking he may be able to compete with Ryan Leaf and Craig Whelihan for the backup QB slots behind starter Jim Harbaugh. Rypien had rotator-cuff surgery earlier this offseason and recently said he is not at full strength, though his condition is improving. He was also scheduled to visit with the Chargers earlier but had to cancel to attend to family matters.
