Lions | Free Agents Filling In

Tue, 01 Jan 2002 11:24:39 -0800

Tom Kowalski reports for mlive.com many of the free agents that are on the Detroit Lions roster may see action Sunday due to the team's injury situation. If RB James Stewart (ankle) can't play, RB Aveion Cason, who was signed in late November, is expected to get a lot of looks. With rookie QB Mike McMahon (foot) expected to sit again, QB Ty Detmer will get the call with Scott Dreisbach as the No. 2 QB. The injury situation at WR may force the team to sign WR Latef Grim from the practice squad although coach Marty Mornhinweg said he does not anticipate doing so. S Marty Carter may start this week with Lamar Campbell (thigh) doubtful. Also LB Brian Williams will see extensive action with Barrett Green (back) most likely OUT again.

Among the free-agent safeties the team may be interested in looking at are Mark Carrier, Billy Jenkins, Marty Carter, Mike Dumas, Henry Jones and Greg Jeffries.
