Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning can join Steve Young as the only quarterbacks in National Football League history to post at least three straight seasons with a passer rating of 100 or better. Manning enters Week 17 with a 100.9 passer rating.


NFL | ESPN shuffles NFL coverage

Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports ESPN confirmed this week that after an 18-year run on Sunday evenings, NFL Prime Time will move to 6 p.m. Mondays and feature a new cast (Stuart Scott, Ron Jaworski and Mike Ditka). ESPN will have Chris Berman and Tom Jackson narrate highlights on the 90-minute Sports Center at 11 p.m. Sunday evenings. Berman and Jackson then will join Michael Irvin, Steve Young and Chris Mortensen on ESPN's Monday Night Football 90-minute pregame show at 7 p.m.

Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports ESPN's Steve Young, who lives in California, wants to cut down on his travel schedule and is speaking to the network about no longer appearing every week in ESPN's Bristol, Conn., studios. That would result in an expanded role for NFL analyst Mike Ditka. Young does plan to appear on ESPN's Monday Night Football pregame show.

Andrew Marchand, of the New York Post, reports former NFL CB Deion Sanders met with ESPN executives Tuesday, March 14, to discuss a role on the network's NFL coverage, according to his agent, Barry Frank. Sanders would be an ideal fit on ESPN's NFL pregame shows. ESPN's Sunday pregame show has two chairs in limbo because Michael Irvin and Steve Young are in contract negotiations.

The Tennessean reports Tennessee Titans QB Steve McNair passed former Denver Broncos QB John Elway on the NFL's all-time rushing list for quarterbacks. McNair (3,418 yards) is now fourth behind former QBs Randall Cunningham (4,928), Steve Young (4,239) and Fran Tarkenton (3,674).

Katherine Smith, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms was questioned about his toughness by Hall of Fame QB Steve Young. Young said, "I worry that he grew up in a much different atmosphere, [a] laissez-faire kind of atmosphere and I'm worried that he doesn't have the mental toughness to deal with the information overload that comes with the NFL." Simms father, former New York Giants QB Phil Simms, said, "Come to my house, live with me, and let's see how laissez-faire it is. I don't know how Steve Young lives his life, but I don't live mine that way. And I didn't raise my kids that way. You can say whatever you want about my son, but one thing that'll get me mad, and I'll stand in your face about it, is about toughness"

The Associated Press reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning's 24-yard touchdown pass to WR Marvin Harrison early in the fourth quarter Sunday, Oct. 2, against the Tennessee Titans tied the duo with San Francisco 49ers QB Steve Young and WR Jerry Rice for most career TD passes for a duo at 85.
