Frank Schwab, of the Gazette, reports if the Denver Broncos keep three quarterbacks on their roster, QBs Matt Mauck and Danny Kanell will be battling to win that spot. Mauck is still eligible for one more year on the practice squad. Kanell doesn't have that fallback plan. Both quarterbacks were hopeful that with three preseason games left they could move up the depth chart. But they also said its better if they play without thinking about what will happen at the end of preseason.

Frank Schwab, of the Gazette, reports Denver Broncos QB Bradlee Van Pelt has taken control of the backup quarterback job. The Broncos have kept only two quarterbacks on the active roster for most of the past two seasons, and unless Van Pelt stumbles badly, QBs Matt Mauck and Danny Kanell might be running out of time as Broncos.

Lee Rasizer, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos QB Danny Kanell has been running as the fourth-string quarterback during training camp because the coaching staff already knows what he can do. He said he is trying to stay positive and make the most of his opportunities.

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos QB Danny Kanell was disappointed to hear from the team's coaching staff that QB Bradlee Van Pelt would continue to work with the second-team offense during training camp. "(The coaches) sat us all down the quarterbacks the other day (and said), 'Here, this is what we are going to do,' " Kanell said. "I haven't slept the past couple of nights." While head coach Mike Shanahan has praised Van Pelt's performance thus far, the No. 2 job still remains up in the air.

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos QB Danny Kanell says he has cobbled out a comfortable niche in the Broncos' offensive system. "I've got a really good grasp of it – (the) intricacies and the little ins and outs that (head coach Mike Shanahan) really tries to stress," Kanell said. Kanell added that he has matured a lot over the years, and he believes his time in the league gives him a leg up on the team's younger signal callers who will be pushing for the No. 2 job during training camp.
