NFLplayers.com reports that former NFL QB Bubby Brister has found a new career as co-host of a hunting and fishing-based television show on The Outdoor Channel. After a brief stint as a football analyst in Denver, Brister decided he wanted to turn his love of hunting and fishing into a career. "I've always wanted to do something with the outdoors," Brister said. "I did the pre-game and the post-game shows for Fox Sports Net in Denver when I retired and really didn't feel comfortable doing that. I feel really comfortable in the outdoors and that's sort of my passion."

Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com last night's acquisition of QB Joe Germaine gave the Kansas City Chiefs four QBs. Not for long though as the team released veteran QB Bubby Brister this morning.

The Kansas City Star reports the Kansas City Chiefs played great in the first half of last night's pre-season loss and bad in the second half. The team lost a 17-0 lead and wound up losing the game 21-17. RB Tony Richardson scored on a 3-yard run, and RB Mike Cloud bulled in from the 1, giving the Chiefs their only rushing TDs of the pre-season and a 14-0 lead. QB Bubby Brister completed 10 of 22 passes for 118 yards, but he was intercepted three times.

The Post-Dispatch reports the St. Louis Rams overcame a 17-0 deficit to beat the Chiefs 21-17 last night. The Rams defense tortured Chiefs backup QB Bubby Brister in the second half, scoring two TDs off Brister turnovers. Rams new, No. 2 QB Marc Bulger completed 18 of 34 passes for 156 yards. Rookie LB Tommy Polley had an 82-yard interception return for a TD late in the third quarter. Backup RB Trung Canidate scored on a 2-yard run. DL Tyoka Jackson, picked up ball after Brister dropped in on a pass and raced 35 yards for the game-winning TD with 8:12 remaining.

The KC Star reports Kansas City Chiefs Coach Dick Vermeil said the Chiefs don't have an interest in trading for Chicago QB Cade McNown. "I'm not going to give up draft choices for anybody right now," Vermeil said. The coach is happy with Todd Collins and Bubby Brister, his current backups.

KCChiefs.com reports the Kansas City Chiefs have named QB Trent Green the starter for the pre-season opener against the Washington Redskins. Todd Collins has been named second string QB, Bubby Brister had been named third string and Ryan Helming has been named fourth string.

Rick Dean reports for the Capital-Journal with Kansas City Chiefs QB Trent Green sidelined for the team's mini-camp, QBs Bubby Brister and Todd Collins split work with the first unit while undrafted free agent QB Ryan Helming of Northern Iowa worked extensively with the lower units. "The more work I can get, the better off I'll be if I do need to play," said Brister.

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press the agent for QB Bubby Brister said his client is not close to a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. Talks likely will resume after the draft as the Chiefs are interested in Brister as a backup QB.

According to John Clayton of ESPN.com, no matter who the Kansas City Chiefs land as a starting QB, they seem to like the idea of signing veteran free agent Bubby Brister as their backup QB.

As an update to previous reports, the Topeka Capital Journal reports the Kansas City Chiefs are looking at QB Jim Druckenmiller, who just worked out with the team yesterday, as a candidate for a backup role with the team. As reported, the team also plans to meet with veteran QB Bubby Brister (Vikings) later this week.

The Kansas City Star reports the next QB to visit the Kansas City Chiefs, on what seems to be an endless list of visitors, is free agent QB Bubby Brister (Vikings). He is due in town next week. Also, a workout for XFL QB Jim Druckenmiller remained a possibility. In other news, the Chiefs were preparing an offer sheet for Rams restricted free agent WR Tony Horne. He has until Monday to sign an offer sheet with the Chiefs. If he signs an offer sheet and the Rams don't match, the Chiefs owe the Rams no compensation. Horne would fill the Chiefs need for a kick-return specialist.

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press free agent DT Cortez Kennedy left Minnesota yesterday without a contract from the Vikings. However, his departure from an extended visit apparently doesn't indicate a snag in negotiations. Talks will continue this week and the Vikings would like to have a conclusion to the situation in time for the NFL Draft. The Vikings released several players on Tuesday, TE Giles Cole, WR Jeremy Earp, DB Keith Williams and FB Marvin Welch. All four had been released by their respective NFL Europe teams. QB Bubby Brister's agent said he feels his client will still sign with an NFL team, but probably not until after the draft.

The Rocky Mountain News reports the Denver Broncos search for defensive line help took a turn toward an old AFC West foe yesterday as the team had free agent DT Chester McGlockton in for a visit. Agent Ralph Cindrich said he has talked to the Broncos about a return to the team for QB Gus Frerotte. Frerotte was not able to reach contract terms with the Bengals on Thursday. The Bengals reportedly offered him a four-year deal worth $10 million, including a $4 million signing bonus and $1 million first-year salary. Former Broncos QB Bubby Brister admitted he's a serious long shot to return to Denver, even as the team's No. 3 QB.

The Denver Post reports Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan and free agent QB Bubby Brister recently met to patch up the problems that existed in Denver before Brister eventually was allowed to depart. The meeting went so well the two are now talking about a potential return of Brister to Denver in a backup role. Brister said he has a couple of other teams interested in him and Minnesota has told him he's welcomed back to serve as the No. 3 QB, but he's interested in being a No. 2 QB with a team at this time. Should Denver sign him, it likely wouldn't happen until later this spring.

The Pioneer Press reports the Minnesota Vikings have re-signed QB Todd Bouman to a multi-year contract. No further terms were disclosed. Bouman was scheduled to become a restricted free agent Friday. He is now expected to take over as the team's No. 2 QB as free agent QB Bubby Brister will not be re-signed.

As an update to previously reported stories, the Pioneer Press' Bill Williamson reports the Minnesota Vikings are negotiating a contract with potential restricted free agent QB Todd Bouman. The team is expected to tender him an offer by March 2 and then re-sign him to a long term contract later. It looks like Bouman will wind up replacing Bubby Brister as the team's No. 2 QB. "We've been told they want Todd to be the backup," said Robert Metcalf, Bouman's agent. The team is expected to re-sign TE Matt Cercone soon. He spent most of the 2000 season on the team's practice squad. Agent Joseph Linta, representing OC Matt Birk, said his client is looking for a contract that equals or exceeds the five-season, $17.5 million contract former Vikings OC Jeff Christy had before he signed with Tampa Bay last year.

After surprisingly starting today's game, Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper has been replaced in the second quarter by Bubby Brister. Culpepper reaggravated his ankle injury and the game now has no playoff implications to the Vikings. Although his return is officially questionable, he probably won't be back.

Culpepper, who didn't take a snap during Saturday's workout, remains a gametime decision today. QB Bubby Brister continued to see the majority of the work during practice.

Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper (ankle) threw briefly on Friday and tested out braces for his sore ankle. Bubby Brister once again took the majority of the snaps with the first team offense. Culpepper plans to test the ankle again on Saturday. He tried out three different braces that could be worn during a game but no decision on whether or not he'll play has been made yet for him this weekend.

The Minneapolis Star/Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper (ankle) threw during warmups again on Thursday in a limited fashion and then gave way to QBs Bubby Brister, Todd Bouman and Billy Cockerham during practice. Culpepper is going to take the walking boot off today, Friday, and attempt to practice. All signs are pointing towards Brister starting, but the team is holding out hope that they'll be able to name Culpepper the starter on Sunday before the game.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Dennis Green, during his Monday press conference, stated QB Daunte Culpepper has a sprained ankle. He'll have a cast put on his foot for a few days and will be re-evaluated later this week. Because he's never had any major injury, the team isn't sure how long his recovery speed usually is. If he isn't able to play, Green said the team is comfortable going with Bubby Brister as the starter if Culpepper isn't able to play.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan is looking for some definite improvement from QB Brian Griese next year ... and excuses won't be tolerated. ``In the first year, everybody says, 'Hey, it's your first year and there's going to be some growing pains.' In the second year, nobody cares about those growing pains. You either produce or you're gone,'' Shanahan stated. Griese just underwent surgery on his injured shoulder and is expected to rest four-to-six weeks. ``(The surgeon) said, 'Oh my gosh, I can't believe he's been playing with this,''' said team trainer Steve Antonopulos. ``He's a tough son of a buck.'' With both Griese and Bubby Brister expected to return next year, Shanahan wouldn't committ to bringing in another quarterback.

The Rocky Mountain News reports that as the Broncos June minicamp wrapped up on Wednesday, both QBs, Brian Griese and Chris Miller have done a nice job in camp of picking up the Broncos offense. Both have also pleased coach Mike Shanahan to this point. Griese will enter training camp as the #2 QB behind starter Bubby Brister. On Griese, Shanahan said, "he picks things up quicker than anybody, it comes natural to him. A lot of it has to do with his intelligence and being around football." As for Miller, the coach commented, "his arm looks very good. Coming back after the time off, he looks very polished. One of the reasons is because of all the time he's been spending around here."

The Denver Post reports QB Bubby Brister showed up in great shape for the team's minicamp and is looking to make a serious claim to his projected starting position for the team this year. The team finished its minicamp with a set of ten 100-yard sprints. The QBs and the LBs run together, and Brister out ran all of the others.

Now he thinks he's not. But he's not ready to make it official" the article states. "I just don't want to close the door, and I don't want to close it right now. But there's still a 90 per cent chance that I'm going to retire." What does this mean for the other Bronco quarterbacks if Elway retires? Bubby Brister will be the starter next year, with Brian Griese as the quarterback of the future getting another year of seasoning on the bench.
