Mon, 13 May 2002 09:12:50 -0700 The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Cleveland Browns WR Chris Sanders has been taking some of the team's younger WRs -- including Dennis Northcutt, Quincy Morgan and rookie Andre Davis -- under his wing trying to teach them better work ethic. Sanders, who learned under Webster Slaughter his rookie year, said the team wants him to take on a leadership role and he's been trying to do that. During earlier workout sessions, he had the team's younger WRs working longer after practice catching more passes. Sanders believes the Browns have a lot of talent at WR and that they'll surprise some this year.
Thu, 08 Jul 1999 07:25:00 -0700 The Baltimore Sun reports that the next meeting for RB Lawrence Phillips will be with Ravens head coach Brian Billick later today in Atlanta. If the meeting goes well Phillips is then expected to be brought to Baltimore next week to meet with senior team officials. "If Brian feels we should pursue this further, then we'll have Lawrence in for a meeting with several members of the front office soon," VP Ozzie Newsome said. "But again, we're just in the initial phase." The article speculates that even the mild interest in Phillips indicates that the team may not be sold on Priest Holmes as the primary RB although Billick says no. "This is very similar to what we're doing at the wide receiver position," Billick said. "We know the situation, but we brought in players like Webster Slaughter, Qadry Ismail and Billy Davis. It doesn't mean we're out to necessarily replace a player or saying we're devoid at that position. But the name of the game in this league is to get better." The team would reportedly look to give Phillips a contract for the veteran's minimum ($400,000) loaded with incentives.

Tue, 08 Jun 1999 07:30:00 -0700 The Baltimore Sun reports newly signed WR Webster Slaughter said coach Brian Billick has told him he could play either inside or outside, and possibly with a lot of motion to create some mismatches. But one thing's for sure: Slaughter wants to be a team leader.
Mon, 07 Jun 1999 18:10:00 -0700 As a follow up to an earlier story, the Baltimore Ravens have indeed signed WR Webster Slaughter to an undisclosed deal. A conversation with the Baltimore Sun informed us that he signed for one-year, $400,000 plus incentives.
Mon, 07 Jun 1999 07:50:00 -0700 The Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Ravens will have WR Webster Slaughter in town today for a workout with the team.
Sun, 30 May 1999 16:15:00 -0700 The Baltimore Sun reports when the NFL free-agent market reopens Tuesday morning, the Ravens will be shopping for a veteran WR or a DT as possible starters, and maybe a veteran LB or safety who can fill out the special teams. The market doesn't seem as if it will be filled with tackles, but receivers such as Justin Armour, Webster Slaughter, Freddie Solomon and Billy Davis might be options.
