The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins are still interested in signing free agent S Corey Harris (Ravens), but their focus now seems to be on offensive players. They have had preliminary discussions with agent Hadley Engelhard about free agent RB Dorsey Levens (Packers). Engelhard, said Friday he has had "some discussions" with the Redskins but is not close to a deal. As noted, the Lions are also pursuing Harris.

Two of the new starters, S Corey Harris and G Kipp Vickers, were on the team last year and played significant roles. The only two "outsiders" to join the starting lineup are OT Leon Searcy and QB Elvis Grbac. "Anytime you come back you increase the learning curve when it's with guys familiar with what you're doing," coach Brian Billick said. Keeping teams together in the NFL is tough, but the Ravens have been able to do it.

The Baltimore Sun reports an upbeat Baltimore Ravens team will start a three-day mini-camp later today. The Ravens will gett their first glimpse of their new starting QB Elvis Grbac. "I think anytime you come to a new team, the first impression is always the one that lasts with a lot of the guys," Grbac said. Besides Grbac, the Ravens offense will welcome RT Leon Searcy and the team's top draft choice, TE Todd Heap. The team also welcomes back WR Travis Taylor who was limited to nine games last season after breaking his collarbone. In the secondary, Corey Harris will take Kim Herring's place at strong safety and Anthony Mitchell will hold down the fort at free safety until Rod Woodson signs, probably in June.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Ravens seem to be in no hurry to re-sign free agent S Kim Herring. "We haven't had much contact with Kim's agent," said Ravens VP Ozzie Newsome. He also indicated things could pick up next week. The team feels S Corey Harris gives them a viable replacement if Herring were to sign elsewhere. Herring has visited the Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams and although the Rams liked him, they may not be able to afford him. The Ravens remain confident that they will re-sign S Rod Woodson. Newsome is still in negotiations with Woodson's agent Eugene Parker.

The Sporting News' Mike Preston reports the Baltimore Ravens are expected to push to re-sign LB Cornell Brown. The team does not want to lose Brown and LB Jamie Sharper via free agency. Brown could replace Sharper as a starter if Sharper leaves. If the Ravens can't get Brown, they might look at Redskins free agent LB Derek Smith. S Kim Herring could leave as a free agent and if he does look for Corey Harris to take over his role. Look for RB Priest Holmes to leave as a free agent as he seeks a starter's job with another team. TE Ben Coates could be on his way out via the free agent route as well.

Both Billick and Herrring did not sound encouraged about Herring's chances to play on Sunday. Herring said he isn't going to rush his rehabilitation, especially with backup Corey Harris playing well. Billick said FB Sam Gash (back) will play, but that reserve Chuck Evans got additional practice time this week. TE Shannon Sharpe missed Friday's practice, as he left town to attend the funeral of a relative. He will be back for the game on Sunday.

The Baltimore Sun reports for the second day in a row, the Baltimore Ravens practiced at PSINet Stadium rather than at their practice facility in Owings Mills because of the frozen fields. Coach Brian Billick piped in crowd noise during one team period and the two-minute drill to simulate the conditions the Ravens will face at Adelphia Coliseum on Sunday in an AFC semifinal. The Washington Post reports safety Kim Herring (ankle) did not practice again Thursday, which means it is even more unlikely he will play on Sunday. Corey Harris is expected to start for Herring.
