The New England Patriots will be visiting with WR Michael Jackson in the next few days. ``He's a big guy who can run and who has been very productive in the past,'' said VP/GM Bobby Grier told the Providence Journal. ``We're looking to see what he has left.'' ``We want to see if there is some obvious reason for his drop in production,'' said Grier, who added that Jackson, if healthy, could serve as a nice insurance policy for the Patriots' oft-injured receiving corps ... That's why we want to look at him. We want to gather as much information as possible so if something comes up around (training) camp, we'll know what we're looking at.'' If the Patriots can find room to squeeze him under the salary cap, he'd be a welcome addition, even if it is only to light a fire under oft-injured WR Terry Glenn.

The Dallas Morning News reports the visit by WR Michael Jackson, according to owner Jerry Jones, was not to send a message to WR Michael Irvin that his days in Dallas were over. The Denver Rocky Mountain News reports the Baltimore Ravens are considering making a run at WRs Carl Pickens (CIN) and Terrell Owens (SF). Both players were named franchise players earlier this year which means the Ravens would need to pay compensation for either player. The Ravens may still be interested in re-signing WR Michael Jackson, who they cut earlier this year. According to the report, it doesn't appear as if the Ravens will have a realistic shot at either Pickens or Owens for various reasons.

Mike Preston reports in the Baltimore Sun the Ravens have decided not to pick up the option year on the contract of WR Michael Jackson. Doing so costs them $1 million against the salary cap rather than $3.7 million (if they had picked up the option). "His contract expired Friday," said Ozzie Newsome, the Ravens' vice president of player personnel. "We have talked with Michael's agent and told him we plan to explore our options, just as Michael plans to explore his. If by chance things don't work out, we could talk with them again."
