The Indianapolis Star reports the Indianapolis Colts have signed free agent QB Jim Druckenmiller. "Druck is all fired up," Gary Wichard, Druckenmiller's agent, said Wednesday. "He's looking forward to getting back in the saddle again." Team president Bill Polian said Wednesday the team put Druckenmiller through a workout during the season, but held off signing him until recently. He has not been with an NFL team the past three years.

The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins held tryouts for eight other players earlier today, in addition to the previously reported QBs Jim Druckenmiller, Ron Powlus and John Turman. The others were QBs Scott Dreisbach and Jason McKinley, WRs Rico Cannon, Kevin Coffey, Anthony Collins, Henry Douglas and Dwaune Jones (Richmond), and FS Nick Sorenson. None have been signed, at this point in time.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Washington Redskins worked out free agent QBs Jim Druckenmiller, Ron Powlus and John Turman. A Redskins source said that Druckenmiller had an impressive workout, but the team did not offer him a contract but hinted they'd be in contact with him.

As an update to previous reports, the Topeka Capital Journal reports the Kansas City Chiefs are looking at QB Jim Druckenmiller, who just worked out with the team yesterday, as a candidate for a backup role with the team. As reported, the team also plans to meet with veteran QB Bubby Brister (Vikings) later this week.

As an update to a previous story, the Kansas City Star reports XFL QB Jim Druckenmiller stopped by for a workout with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday. XFL QB Tommy Maddox may come for a visit next week, after his Los Angeles team plays in this weekend's league championship game.

The Kansas City Star reports the next QB to visit the Kansas City Chiefs, on what seems to be an endless list of visitors, is free agent QB Bubby Brister (Vikings). He is due in town next week. Also, a workout for XFL QB Jim Druckenmiller remained a possibility. In other news, the Chiefs were preparing an offer sheet for Rams restricted free agent WR Tony Horne. He has until Monday to sign an offer sheet with the Chiefs. If he signs an offer sheet and the Rams don't match, the Chiefs owe the Rams no compensation. Horne would fill the Chiefs need for a kick-return specialist.

Len Pasquarelli of SportsLine.com reports the Kansas City Chiefs are tentatively scheduled to meet with former San Francisco 49ers QB Jim Druckenmiller and could soon reach a contract agreement with the three-year veteran, who just completed the XFL season. The Chiefs are still pursuing a trade with the Rams for QB Trent Green, but no deal is imminent.

Earlier the Miami Dolphins potential interest in QB Drew Brees was reported as something to watch in the NFL Draft. Today, Len Pasquarelli reports for SportsLine.com the Oakland Raiders may be on the list of teams looking at Brees too. Coach Jon Gruden reportedly isn't as sold on backup QB Bobby Hoying as he was a year ago. Another name the Raiders are considering is XFL QB Jim Druckenmiller, formerly of the 49ers. Druckenmiller has demonstrated improved mobility and there have been casual talks between the Raiders and his agent.

The AP reports that a judge has denied a prosecutor's request to move the rape trial of 49ers QB Jim Druckenmiller out of the community where he played college football at Virginia Tech. Druckenmiller will stand trial July 19 in Montgomery County Circuit Court, one week before he is scheduled to report to the 49ers training camp.

The AP reports that prosecutors in the rape trial of 49ers QB Jim Druckenmiller want to move the trial to prevent "favorable bias" for the former Virginia Tech star. They feel like finding a neutral jury is next to impossible because of the popularity of Druckenmiller from his college days. Bev Davis, one of Druckenmiller's lawyers, said the motion to move the trial was without merit and would be opposed during a pretrial hearing July 9. The trial is scheduled for July 19th.

The San Jose Mercury News reports, that as reported earlier, QB Steve Stenstrom worked out for the 49ers on Thursday, rolling out and throwing passes for about 30 minutes after mini-camp practice. "Everybody's been great around here," said Stenstrom, who has also worked out for Detroit but has received no offers. "Coach Mariucci recruited me out of high school, so it was good to see him again." Mariucci downplayed the notion that Stenstrom's tryout is bad news for QB Jim Druckenmiller, who is also at the minicamp. "Steve Stenstrom is coming in for a quick workout," Mariucci said. "And that issue (of Druckenmiller's legal entanglements) will resolve itself as soon as it possibly can. We are not letting that make our decision for us right now."

Matt Maiocco, of the Contra Costa Times, is reporting the San Francisco 49ers may not be able to release QB Jim Druckenmiller after all - not even if they want to. If the team were to release him and another team picked him up, the 49ers would then be responsible for the remainder of his signing bonus. That would be roughly $1.34 million. The team is currently about $300,000 under the salary cap. However, if they release him and nobody picks him off of waivers the team would save $559,500. It could be a gamble the 49ers aren't ready to take.

The Miami Herald reports the 49ers have given OL Kevin Gogan and QB Jim Druckenmiller the permission to seek a trade and the Dolphins have spoken with the agents for both players. Reportedly Gogan is being shopped for a third or fourth-round draft pick while it is unclear what the price for Druckenmiller is. "I am aware Miami has an interest in me," Gogan said in Friday's editions of the San Jose Mercury News. "I hope they are because I played for Jimmy in Dallas and I know what he's like with his players and I know they have a legitimate opportunity to win a Super Bowl." Reportedly the Jets and Falcons have also shown an interest in Druckenmiller. The article also says the Dolphins may contact the agent for former Dolphins WR Tony Martin who was released on Friday by the Falcons.
