WR Malcolm Johnson (knee), who played in the CFL last season, received a clean bill of health from Dr. Chris Harner on Friday. Harner is with UPMC in Pittsburgh, which is where many NFL players have rehabbed from injuries over the years. Johnson is en-route to Chicago to continue his workouts with a group of draft-eligible players. “I am well on my way to a full recovery,” Johnson confirmed to KFFL on Friday. He’s hopeful of returning to the NFL for the 2003 season. The former Steelers’ fifth-round pick has played for the Steelers, Bengals and Jets.

Geoff Hobson reports for Bengals.com the team has signed WR Malcolm Johnson, TE Kirk McMullen, DT Jeff Boyle and OLB Chris Edmonds to their practice squad. The Bengals brought in rookie WR Ken-Yon Rambo for a workout Tuesday, but he wanted to wait a day before signing and the team sent Rambo on his way. He may be headed back to the Raiders.

Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson reports the Bengals made more roster cuts today and the list contained a few surprises. S/KR Tremain Mack and P Daniel Pope were two of the cuts. The team placed rookie TE Sean Brewer on the injured reserve list. WR Damon Griffin was also placed on IR with a minor injury. The team officially re-signed QB Scott Covington when the team was forced to carry four QBs due to Scott Mitchell's injury. Also released were FB Clif Groce and DE Kevin Henry. WR Malcolm Johnson, C Roger Roesler and DE Corey Moore joined the list of released players. Rookie free agents who have practice squad eligibility that were cut were TE Kirk McMullen, DT Jeff Boyle, and LBs Rashad Harris and Chris Edmonds.

Geoff Hobson reports for Bengals.com Cincinnati Bengals rookie free agent OT Freddie Moore looks like he’ll be out for eight to 10 weeks and possibly for the season with a complete tear of his medial collateral knee ligament. Rookie free agent DT Calvin Lewis (sprained ankle) is day-to-day. WRs Danny Farmer (hamstring) and Malcolm Johnson (twisted left knee) are also day-to-day.

Bengals.com reports Cincinnati Bengals rookie WR Chad Johnson joined WRs Malcolm Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, another rookie, this week to work with WRs coach Steve Mooshagian. The two rookies have been absent because of school requirements while M. Johnson was just added to the team off waivers. They're now getting a crash course on what they missed during previous mini-camp workouts. The team wants C. Johnson signed before the start of training camp to make sure he doesn't suffer any setbacks in learning the offense.
