Rays | Drew Smyly doing more

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 13:36:44 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder), who is dealing with shoulder tendonitis, "ramped up his exercises" Monday, March 9, according to manager Kevin Cash. However, he has yet to throw.

Fantasy Tip: The 25-year-old lefty will likely be undervalued at the tail end of standard 12-team mixed leagues in 2015. He went a combined 9-10 with a 3.24 ERA and had 133 strikeouts in 153 innings in 2014 in 25 starts. His injury this spring needs to be monitored, but if he starts the season on time, he could be a nice value pick.

Rays | More lineup stability for Tampa Bay

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 06:49:49 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash wants to have more stability in his lineups than in past years. The Rays have averaged 137.4 lineups the past five seasons. Cash believes more lineup stability will be better for the players. "We've talked a lot about it with the front office, and they think the same way, too," Cash said. "Maybe it's a little different than what's gone on in the past, but that's our thought, that we're going to roll with this and we'll see if we can provide some stability and get some guys comfortable when they come to the ballpark, they know they're hitting in this slot, and see how that shakes out for a while."
