Nationals | Jayson Werth could be out longer

Mon, 20 May 2013 17:29:28 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth's (hamstring) MRI raised an "alarming report," and he could be out for two more weeks.

Fantasy Tip: This is bad news for Werth owners, but we can't be sure until we have an actual diagnosis of his tests. But it doesn't look good. Hop on the Tyler Moore bandwagon if you haven't already in deep mixed leagues. It looks as though he'll continue to see consistent playing time.

Nationals | Jayson Werth to see specialist

Sat, 18 May 2013 19:05:18 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) is traveling to Chicago to visit with a specialist concerning his hamstring injury, according to manager Davey Johnson. Werth is still feeling some tightening in the hamstring when he breaks out of the batter's box.

Fantasy Tip: Werth is still ailing to return sometime next weekend, but he should obviously be reserved in all fantasy leagues until he can officially return and make it through at least one full game without any setbacks.

Nationals | Jayson Werth's return likely delayed

Thu, 16 May 2013 22:01:27 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) felt some tightness in his strained right hamstring and visited the team's specialist in New York to get examined on Thursday, May 16. A team spokesman said Werth, who went 1-for-2 for Class A Potomac on Wednesday and aimed to play for them again Thursday, isn't expected to return from the disabled list Saturday, May 18, as previously planned. Manager Davey Johnson didn't appear concerned that Werth had suffered a serious setback, though he may not have been alerted that Werth might miss more time when he made those comments.

Fantasy Tip: Werth may only be out until early next week at this rate, so don't write off his return yet. When he comes back, he should be re-inserted into deep lineups. Until then, the annoying timeshare in the outfield between Tyler Moore, Steve Lombardozzi and Roger Bernadina will continue.

Nationals | Jayson Werth to see doctor

Tue, 14 May 2013 09:19:44 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) will visit with a doctor in New York Tuesday, May 14, and he's likely to be activated from the disabled list this weekend when the team plays the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Werth's hamstring issues were believed to be caused by dehydration from an illness that he was dealing with. His DL stint was backdated, meaning he can return this weekend. Those riding increased playing time from Tyler Moore in deep mixed leagues will only have a few more days to take advantage of that.

Nationals | Believe dehydration could be problem for Jayson Werth

Fri, 10 May 2013 18:19:11 -0700

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo did not rule out the possibility that dehydration could be a factor in OF Jayson Werth's (hamstring) hamstring issues. "The [dehydration] issue is the issue," Rizzo said. "We think it could be cramping, could be just cramping because of the [dehydration], so we're gonna get that under control and see where he's at and just be cautious with it."

Nationals | Jayson Werth has strained hammy

Fri, 10 May 2013 14:48:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals expect to place OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 10, with a "very slight strain" of his left hamstring. His DL stint can be backdated since he hasn't played since May 2, meaning he'd be eligible to return May 18, and the team expects him to return at that point. Werth's MRI exam showed "a Grade 1-ish type of strain."

Fantasy Tip: If you already added Tyler Moore in deep mixed leagues due to Werth's absence, you can expect to ride his increased playing time for at least another week. After that, though, his value will likely be limited to NL-only leagues.

Nationals | Jayson Werth expected to go on DL

Fri, 10 May 2013 13:33:39 -0700

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) will probably have to go on the disabled list because he's still experiencing spasms in his hamstring. However, the move can be backdated to allow him to return sooner. OF Eury Perez or 2B Jeff Kobernus are options to be recalled if Werth is put on the DL.

Fantasy Tip: An illness and dehydration led to Werth's initial problems with hamstring spasms, and they haven't gone away. The good news is that he probably won't need to miss the full two weeks for his DL stint. Tyler Moore was seeing the most playing time in the outfield as a result of Werth's absence, and Roger Bernadina saw an occasional start, too. Moore should be your first target in deep mixed leagues, but it'll likely be a short-lived hike in PT.

Nationals | Jayson Werth not expected to miss much more time

Fri, 10 May 2013 10:39:14 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) isn't expected to miss more than one more game, according to manager Davey Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: We heard this before - earlier this week. The good news is that Werth's MRI came back negative. Keep checking to see if he's back in there. Hopefully that comes this weekend.
