Nationals | Jayson Werth out at least six weeks

Mon, 07 May 2012 09:51:56 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) will miss at least six weeks after breaking his left wrist Sunday, May 6. It's the same wrist he broke while playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2005. The team will platoon OFs Xavier Nady and Roger Bernadina in left field in the meantime, with OF Bryce Harper in right field. OFs Steve Lombardozzi and Chad Tracy could also see time in left.

Nationals | Jayson Werth has broken left wrist

Sun, 06 May 2012 20:52:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) has a broken left wrist, and he will be out "a while." He suffered the injury diving for a ball in the game Sunday, May 6. Werth will see a specialist Monday, May 7, consulting with a surgeon from the Mayo Clinic.

Fantasy Tip: Xavier Nady, who replaced Werth in the outfield Sunday night, figures to directly benefit the most from Werth's injury, which is expected to keep him out for at least six weeks. Nady could form a platoon with Roger Bernadina, though, so neither fly catcher warrants much attention outside of NL-only leagues. PT for Nady and Bernadina will dry up when Mike Morse (lat) and Mark DeRosa (oblique) return from their DL stints, too.

This is good news for Bryce Harper owners perhaps moreso. GM Mike Rizzo indicated late last week that the team had no plans to send the young phenom down. An extended absence for Werth, coupled with Harper's early success and electric style of play, makes it a safe bet that he'll stick in the bigs for a while.
