Nationals | Jayson Werth says he's healthy

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 14:00:40 -0800

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder, wrist) said he is fully healthy leading up to spring training. "I'm healthy. I have a full winter of training. Get back to normal workouts. Looking forward to being healthy and coming in good shape," Werth said.

Fantasy Tip: Werth's injuries left a lot to be desired in 2015. He had only 12 long balls and 42 RBI in just 88 games for the Nats. Washington's lineup should be more consistent this season, but Werth remains an injury risk as your third or fourth fantasy fly catcher.

Nationals | Washington making run at Yoenis Cespedes

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 08:58:54 -0800

The Washington Nationals are making a run at signing free-agent OF Yoenis Cespedes (Mets), according to major league sources. The Nationals also made runs at Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward and Detroit Tigers OF Justin Upton before they signed elsewhere. The Nats offer is said to be less than what Upton received from the Tigers. The New York Mets and Chicago White Sox are also interested in Cespedes, but they are only willing to give him a three-year deal.

The question with Cespedes in Washington would be where he would play. If he were to sign, either Cespedes or OF Bryce Harper would likely play center field. A trade of OF Jayson Werth appears highly unlikely.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes should already be viewed as a top-tier second fantasy outfielder, and a move to Washington would only bolster his value and price on draft day. Hitting in a lineup with 2015 MVP Harper is really scary.

Nationals | Jayson Werth pegged as leadoff man?

Thu, 07 Jan 2016 14:54:43 -0800

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth would be the opening day leadoff hitter, if Washington does not make any roster adjustments, in the opinion of MLB.com's Bill Ladson.

Fantasy Tip: Werth is coming off a career-worst season, and entering his age-37 campaign, the potential for a bounce-back showing is far from guaranteed. Be wary of overvaluing Werth on draft day, and it is likely best to view him as nothing more than a late-round flier.

Nationals | Jayson Werth grabs some pine

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:41:35 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3, with OF Tyler Moore hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has struggled all season and isn't a good option against Matt Harvey on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Nats regulars being rested

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 11:11:08 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar, SS Ian Desmond and OF Jayson Werth are all out of the lineup Monday, Sept. 28. 2B Anthony Rendon moves to third base and is hitting third, SS Trea Turner is starting at the 6 and hitting second and OF Matt den Dekker is starting in right field and hitting seventh against Cincinnati Reds SP Brandon Finnegan. 2B Dan Uggla draws a start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Turner ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has some appeal as a deep sleeper because of his upside on FantasyScore, but Rendon ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is realistically the only player here worth putting into your FantasyScore lineup. Despite no homers against lefties this year, he's batting .328 (19-for-58) against them.

Nationals | Jayson Werth, Wilson Ramos sitting

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 10:11:03 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth and C Wilson Ramos are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Harang Sunday, Sept. 27. OF Matt den Dekker will start in left field and is batting seventh, while C Jose Lobaton is starting at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: den Dekker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Lobaton ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) have not posted great batting averages in their limited playing time this season and should be avoided by owners.

Nationals | Jayson Werth sitting vs. Philly

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 08:07:47 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth is not in the starting lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday, Sept. 27. C Wilson Ramos is not in the starting lineup, either.

Fantasy Tip: Jose Lobaton ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Matt den Dekker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) draw into the lineup, and neither are strong FantasyScore plays. However, if you're looking to open up cap space to spend up elsewhere, Phillies SP Aaron Harang ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) isn't an intimidating opposing pitcher.

Nationals | Jayson Werth homers twice

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 19:47:01 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) hit four home runs in the three-game sweep of the Phils. He is batting .302 with six homers and 13 RBIs during the month of September and makes a solid FantasyScore option.

Nationals | Jayson Werth streaking

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 17:58:11 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in an 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves Sunday, Sept. 6, extending his hitting streak to eight games.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has three homers, seven RBI and eight runs scored during the streak, and he is a bargain at his current price at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Jayson Werth strong in leadoff

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 14:53:55 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth has played in 16 games in the leadoff spot since Aug. 18, not counting the Sunday, Sept. 6, game. He is 23-for-68 (.338) with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs, 11 RBIs, eight walks and 16 runs scored.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) should be in your FantasyScore lineup with numbers like these and a lower salary cap penalty to your roster. He has been hitting the ball like a terror since coming to the No. 1 spot.
