Nationals | Jayson Werth with a good Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 16:13:33 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth homered and drove in four runs Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: He had a miserable start to the season and was 4-for-23 (.174) the last seven days coming into today. He remains a midrange outfield option.

Nationals | Jayson Werth injury not serious

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 10:37:19 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) has downplayed his injury and doesn't expect to miss significant time after his left hamstring tightened up Wednesday, April 20. Manager Dusty Baker said it was a precautionary thing. Werth has two home runs and a .933 OPS in the last seven games.

Fantasy Tip: Werth is a streaky hitter, so while he's hot you should want to keep him in your lineups. Unfortunately, he's also injury-prone, too, and 2015 was a lost year because of ailments. Werth helps with power and on-base percentage as outfield depth in mixed leagues.

Nationals | Two Nats sitting Thursday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:48:04 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman and OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) are out of the lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Matt den Dekker is leading off, and 1B Clint Robinson is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Tom Koehler is on the bump for the Fish, and den Dekker and Robinson aren't hitting above .100. Pass on them today.

Nationals | Jayson Werth not likely for Thursday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 04:34:56 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (hamstring) was lifted from his team's game as a precaution Wednesday, April 20, after his left hamstring tightened. Manager Dusty Baker plans to rest Werth on Thursday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: Werth says he is all right, but hamstrings can be funny. Keep an eye on his situation moving forward. It doesn't look too serious, but daily owners can adjust their teams on the fly. Owners in regular leagues shouldn't have to worry too much either.

Nationals | Jayson Werth exits with injury Wednesday

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 18:04:46 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (undisclosed) left the game against the Miami Marlins in the fifth inning Wednesday, April 20, due to an undisclosed injury. He was replaced in left field by OF Chris Heisey.

Fantasy Tip: Check back later for updates on Werth's injury. If he is forced to miss an extended period of time, Heisey would likely receive a great deal of action in left field and would see an increase in fantasy value in NL-only formats.

Nationals | Three Nats regulars struggling

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 15:37:50 -0700

Washington Nationals OFs Michael Taylor and Jayson Werth and SS Danny Espinosa are all hitting under .172 to start the year and have on-base percentages under .290. However, manager Dusty Baker has seen encouraging signs from them and is committed to keeping all three in the regular lineup. Taylor is 6-for-41 with one walk to open the season. Espinosa has just two hits in his last 24 at-bats but sports a .219 average on balls in play, and his line-drive rate and walk rate are up.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor has the most fantasy upside of the group for his power-speed combination, and owners in all formats should have picked him up in the short term with Ben Revere on the DL.

Nationals | Michael Taylor, Jayson Werth resting

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 09:42:27 -0700

Washington Nationals OFs Michael Taylor and Jayson Werth are not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 14. OF Chris Heisey is in left field and hitting leadoff, while OF Matt den Dekker is the center fielder and is batting seventh against Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran.

Fantasy Tip: Heisey has some notable pop as an extra. He hit a career-high 18 home runs with the Reds back in 2011, and he could pay off as a dart throw if you're looking to save money in daily leagues. Den Dekker can be ignored.

Nationals | Ben Revere, Jayson Werth could platoon

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 21:01:21 -0700

Washington Nationals OFs Ben Revere and Jayson Werth could potentially serve in a platoon situation in left field, as manager Dusty Baker is intrigued by OF Michael Taylor and might be compelled to use him as the everyday center fielder.

Fantasy Tip: Werth makes a lot of money and the team will use him, but he will be 37 soon and is clearly on the downside of his career. He remains useful in NL-only fantasy leagues and some deeper mixed formats, but if he is forced into a platoon situation he could obviously see less fantasy appeal. Revere was expected to have a big role, but the emergence of Michael Taylor has Dusty Baker thinking of changing roles, regardless of salary and what has been done by players in the past.

Nationals | Jayson Werth sent home ill

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 10:57:32 -0800

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (illness) was sent home Thursday, Feb. 25, due to illness. The team hopes he's able to return Friday, Feb. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Werth turns 37 in May and has battled injuries his entire career. He could still pop 15-20 homers, but he's an OF4 without a lot of upside.

Nationals | Jayson Werth says he's healthy

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 14:00:40 -0800

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder, wrist) said he is fully healthy leading up to spring training. "I'm healthy. I have a full winter of training. Get back to normal workouts. Looking forward to being healthy and coming in good shape," Werth said.

Fantasy Tip: Werth's injuries left a lot to be desired in 2015. He had only 12 long balls and 42 RBI in just 88 games for the Nats. Washington's lineup should be more consistent this season, but Werth remains an injury risk as your third or fourth fantasy fly catcher.
