Nationals | Jayson Werth talks timeline

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 16:12:43 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth said he is "days, not weeks, away from playing," Friday, July 3. "As soon as this wrist gets to where it needs to be, I can go on rehab assignment pretty quick," Werth added. "I'm pretty much able to do everything -- weight training-wise."

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is still at least a month away from returning. He is worth stashing in the majority of leagues, but owners will want to keep their expectations in check. Werth could stumble out of the gate upon his return, and the nature of the injury could hinder his hitting, especially his power.

Nationals | Jayson Werth continues to heal

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 18:11:17 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) continues to heal, but he is still at least a month away from a return. "And Jason's healing up. Continuing to heal that bone, so as soon as that bone is fully ready to go, he'll be ready to go," manager Matt Williams said Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Werth has been limited to 27 games after suffering a fractured left wrist. He is expected back sometime in August.

Nationals | Jayson Werth aiming for August

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 09:16:21 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) is aiming to return Aug. 1, from his broken wrist. Werth said his wrist is immobilized 23 hours a day, and he has one hour to do exercises to maintain his grip strength.

Fantasy Tip: Werth needs to be stashed in NL-only formats and DLed in mixed leagues if you have space. However, he can be cut in mixed leagues if necessary.

Nationals | Jayson Werth sets return goal

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 16:53:01 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) said his goal was to return by August 1, Wednesday, June 3. "Whether it's realistic or not I don't know. Everyone heals at their own rate. I've been assured that when it stops hurting I'll be good to go. I'll let pain be my guide."

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is worth stashing in an IR slot in the majority of seasonal leagues, but there is no reason to waste a bench spot on him, at this point anyway. Realistically, there is no telling when he'll return and what impact he may have. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery over the summer. Michael Taylor ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and Tyler Moore ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) have been platooning in left field of late, but neither has taken the job and run with it. They're both low-end fantasy plays in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, with limited upside in FantasyScore contests.

Nationals | Jayson Werth has wrist fractures

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:31:45 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) was diagnosed with two small fractures in his left wrist after he underwent a CT scan, according to a source. Werth is hoping he can return sometime in August.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap), given his reputation as a slow healer, might not even make it back in August, by the sound of it. It'll be a lost season for him, as he was hitting just .208 (21-for-101) with two home runs and 12 RB1. If he returns for the final two months, there's no guarantee he'll regain his pop in order to help out fantasy owners. Drop him in shallow mixed leagues. Michael Taylor ($3,300, 6.6% of cap), Tyler Moore ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Clint Robinson ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) can fill the gap in left field. Taylor has the most upside of the three and will be the most useful at FantasyScore in the right matchups.

Nationals | Jayson Werth unable to swing

Tue, 26 May 2015 20:27:12 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) has rejoined the team but is still unable to swing a bat. Manager Matt Williams said he is not sure when Werth will be activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) likely is several days away from being activated since he is not swinging a bat yet. Michael Taylor ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and Tyler Moore ($1,800, 3.8% of cap) likely will continue to fill in for Werth but neither is a must-start option on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Jayson Werth returning Tuesday

Mon, 25 May 2015 20:03:03 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) will rejoin the team Tuesday, May 26, but he isn't expected to play, manager Matt Williams said Monday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: When Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) does return to the lineup, give him a few games to prove his wrist is healthy before trusting him at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Jayson Werth lands on DL

Tue, 19 May 2015 10:40:25 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) was placed on the disabled list with a left wrist contusion Tuesday, May 19. INF Wilmer Difo was called up from Class AA Harrisburg (Pa.) in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: With Werth out, Michael Taylor ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) should see regular playing time in left field. Taylor can be useful as a sleeper at FantasyScore, mainly for his speed, and he'll be more attractive if he hits at the top of the batting order. Difo figures to be a bat off the bench, and he's only attractive to owners in deep NL-only leagues.

Tue, 19 May 2015 08:15:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) is a candidate to be placed on the disabled list, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Stash Werth in NL-only leagues and deep mixed formats if you have a DL spot.

Nationals | Jayson Werth undergoes MRI

Mon, 18 May 2015 22:34:51 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) underwent an MRI on his injured wrist Monday, May 18, but it did not show any fractures or ligament damage in his wrist, according to a source. It is not known if Werth will need to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) likely will sit out a few more game since he is dealing with swelling in the wrist. Owners should avoid using Werth until more is known about his status. Tyler Moore ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Michael Taylor ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) could receive playing time while Werth is sidelined but may not be great options on FantasyScore.
