Nationals | Jayson Werth returns to lineup

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:16:37 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) will start in left field against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez Tuesday, July 28, and is batting third in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) will be playing for the first time since May 15th, so it may take him some time to return to his pre-injury form. Owners may want to wait a few games before using him on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Jayson Werth, Ryan Zimmerman return

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:57:56 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) and OF Jayson Werth (wrist) were activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, July 28. The team also optioned OF Matt den Dekker to Class AAA Syracuse and outrighted 2B Emmanuel Burriss to Class AAA Syracuse.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) return from lengthy absences and could receive more days off initially since they are returning from injuries. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see them play in a game or two before using them in their lineup.

Nationals | Jayson Werth to return Tuesday

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 16:50:39 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) is expected to return from the disabled list Tuesday, July 28, against the Miami Marlins. He wrapped up his rehab assignment with Class AAA Syracuse Sunday, July 26, according to a source close to Werth. He went 11-for-30 with two doubles, seven RBI, two walks and two strikeouts in nine games in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: You may want to give Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) at least a few games to work his way back into the lineup before running with him in your daily lineups. He was hitting just .208 (21-for-101) with two home runs and 12 RBI before his injury, and there's no guarantee that he'll hit for a ton of power for the remaining games. Werth's return will likely force Matt den Dekker back to a bench role for the Nats.

Nationals | Injured Nats trio unlikely this week

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 09:31:24 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (quadriceps), OF Jayson Werth (wrist) and 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) are unlikely to return this week, according to manager Matt Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is progressing on his rehab assignment and could be back early next week. He's well worth that price on FantasyScore upon returning. Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) seems a little behind Rendon as the team wants him to accumulate at-bats. Zimmerman ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) isn't far behind as well.

Nationals | Jayson Werth to have more rehab

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 18:09:58 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) is scheduled to play another minor-league rehab game with Class AAA Syracuse Tuesday, July 21. He has managed 11 plate appearances, or 10 at-bats, on his current stint. "Fifty at-bats would be ideal, but I don't think he'll able to get 50 at-bats. It just takes too long. Can't afford to have him out that long when he's healthy," manager Matt Williams said. "The wrist is fine, he's building strength in that. The legs are good. But the last thing you want is for the wrist to be OK and he's not fully in shape and something happens and pulls a muscle or then goes down again."

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Werth will be back, as Williams seems to indicate it would not take 50 at-bats, then he sort of contradicted himself and said they want him to be in shape and it might be a while longer. Do yourself a favor and wait to see him officially return and play a full game or two to knock off the rust before trusting him in FantasyScore again.

Nationals | Jayson Werth continuing rehab

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 09:18:17 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) will continue his rehab assignment with Class AAA Syracuse Monday, July 20.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) doesn't have a timetable for his return, but one would think it could be in the next week or two. He'll be a low-end option on FantasyScore and is worth stashing in shallow mixed leagues.

Nationals | Jayson Werth rehab update

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 10:05:07 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) served as the designated hitter in his second rehab game for Class A Potomac Friday, July 17, but is expected to return to the outfield Saturday, July 18. He is 1-for-5 through his first two games.

Fantasy Tip: No official timetable exists for Werth's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) return to the majors but this is expected to be a lengthy rehab assignment. You may want to consider rostering him as he gets closer to returning from the disabled list, although he may not hit for as much power due to the severity of the wrist injury.

Nationals | Jayson Werth rehabs Thursday

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 17:10:47 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) singled and struck out in three innings in his first rehab game with Class A Potomac Thursday, July 16.

Fantasy Tip: It'll likely be a long rehab assignment for Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap), who last played May 15. There's no guarantee that his power will come back strong to finish off the 2015 season, but if he's available in your league, you may want to consider rostering him as he nears his return, which could come at some point in August.

Nationals | Jayson Werth could lead off

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 10:09:08 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) could be used as the team's leadoff hitter when he returns, since OF Denard Span (back) is out with a back ailment. Werth hit leadoff for the Nats in the second half of the 2012 season.

Fantasy Tip: Leading off would be good news for Werth's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) daily value, but it would limit his opportunities to drive in runs in the middle of a potent lineup. However, it's unlikely that Werth would last long in the leadoff spot, as he'd likely be moved back towards the middle of the order whenever Span returns.

Nationals | Jayson Werth begins rehab assignment

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 08:59:52 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (wrist) will start a rehab assignment with Class A Potomac Thursday, July 16. He's been out since May 15 after suffering two small fractures in his left wrist after being hit by a pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has extensive injury history related to his wrist. He could make it back to the Nats sometime next month, but a significant wrist injury like this could sap him of much of his power for the rest of the season. Regardless, Werth could provide owners with a nice source of power if he's healthy. Check to see if he was dumped in your league.
