The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired C Chris Snyder and minor league SS Pedro Ciriaco from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for OF Ryan Church, IF Bobby Crosby and P D.J. Carrasco, according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. The Pirates also received $3 million to help pay for Snyder's salary.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Ryan Church is starting over OF Lastings Milledge Thursday, July 8, marking the 13th time in the last 25 games that Church has started over Milledge, according to MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch. Manager John Russell said he wants to continue giving Church consistent playing time. "To be the team that we need to be, we need to get him going," Russell said. "You look at the numbers and you say, 'Why do you keep going with him?' But the guy has always hit very well. You just hope you can get him on track." The Pirates will typically start Milledge against left-handers and Church against right-handers.
