Curt Sylvester, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions RB James Stewart (shoulder) said he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a dislocated shoulder. Stewart, however, can not return this season, as he was been placed on injured reserve before the season began. "It hurts because you had so many high hopes for this season," Stewart said. "Obviously, it didn't start the way we wanted. Not being a part of it hurts as well. Your teammates are out there striving to get wins and you want to be a part of that struggle."

The Associated Press reports Detroit Lions RB James Stewart could be out six weeks after dislocating his right shoulder in the Lions' pre-season finale against the Buffalo Bills. Stewart, the Lions' leading rusher in each of his three seasons with them, was hurt six minutes into Buffalo's 22-16 victory Thursday night. "There is no structural damage. It won't require surgery," Lions head coach Steve Mariucci said Friday, Aug. 29 after Stewart was examined. "It's a week-to-week sort of thing. It's hard to put a number of weeks on it because every dislocated shoulder is different. I would like to hope he'll be back by the bye week (Oct. 12, Week 6 of the NFL season)." Stewart attended Friday's practice and worked out on a stationary bike.

Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Detroit Lions will reevaluate RB James Stewart's (shoulder) status in three weeks. The team wants to let the injury settle down before revisiting it. As of right now, he does not require surgery on the dislocation. Stewart's goal is to return in three weeks, but the pace of his healing will determine when he returns to the field. Stewart's agent, Pat Dye Jr., said there is a chance he could get back a little sooner because he's always had a good tolerance for pain.

The good news is Stewart's MRI showed no significant structural damage and he will not require surgery. However, he'll probably miss three or four weeks of action because of the injury.
