Wed, 16 Mar 2005 02:24:34 -0800 The Baltimore Sun's Roch Kubatko is reporting Baltimore Orioles SP Kurt Ainsworth (shoulder) has two tears in his right shoulder and a defect that threaten to end his season, and perhaps his playing career. Ainsworth has been found to have a torn labrum and a partial tear of the rotator cuff. Dr. Charles Silberstein, the team's orthopedic specialist, also found a divot in the glenoid fossa, or shoulder socket. Rather than undergo surgery immediately, Ainsworth will return to Fort Lauderdale, and rest for 10 days before beginning a throwing program, and he won't be cleared to pitch for at least 1 1/2 months.

Ainsworth had surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Center to repair inflammation in the inner lining of the joint in the right elbow. Doctors found no bone chips or symptoms that the injury could be season-threatening.
