Rockies | Justin Morneau won't return when eligible

Thu, 21 May 2015 11:44:34 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau (concussion) will not return to the team when he's eligible to come off the 7-day disabled list, and he'll be at least a few more days, according to manager Walt Weiss.

Fantasy Tip: You have to be at least a bit concerned with Morneau given his history with concussions in his time with the Minnesota Twins. In the meantime, Wilin Rosario ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has been a real nice value play since being recalled from the minors. He's hitting .293 (12-for-41) with a home run and five RBI in May.

Rockies | Justin Morneau to 7-day DL

Sat, 16 May 2015 14:17:29 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau (neck, concussion) was placed on the 7-day disabled list with a neck strain and concussion symptoms.

Fantasy Tip: This could be awful news as concussion problems ended his MVP peak years and threatened his career. Hold onto him in traditional leagues for now, but the team will need to be very careful with him if he has a concussion.

Rockies | Justin Morneau remains out

Fri, 15 May 2015 16:55:35 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is not in the lineup for the second straight day Friday, May 15. C Wilin Rosario is starting at first base and hitting cleanup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau left the game with dizziness a few days ago and hasn't returned since. Keep a close eye on his status and plan to stay away from him for the time being. Rosario ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) homered last night and could be in the lineup to stay if Morneau requires a DL stint. While he's not a strong recommendation at FantasyScore against Kershaw, he could be an against-the-grain pick that pays off.

Rockies | Justin Morneau sitting vs. Friars

Thu, 14 May 2015 16:07:51 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 14, after he left early with dizziness Wednesday, May 13. C Wilin Rosario is starting at first base and hitting fifth in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brett Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: Although this game is being threatened by rain, if it's played, Rosario ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could be an excellent value play at FantasyScore while facing a lefty. Last year in 101 at-bats, Rosario had a slash line of .317/.346/.644 against southpaws. Hitting near the heart of a potent Rockies lineup is another plus.

Rockies | Justin Morneau leaves game

Thu, 14 May 2015 04:47:47 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau (dizziness) left the game Wednesday, May 13, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim after suffering dizziness diving for a fly ball.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has a history of concussion problems, and this could be related to his concussion issues or he could simply have been dehydrated. Whatever the case, keep an eye on his status before plugging him back into the lineup.

Sat, 09 May 2015 14:52:22 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is out of the lineup Saturday, May 9, against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Rockies | Justin Morneau out against Padres

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 10:21:58 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. 2B Daniel Descalso is starting at first base and hitting sixth in the batting order against San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Descalso ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) doesn't really tip the offensive scales for FantasyScore owners looking for a cheap infield option. It's best to look elsewhere for your keystone starter Thursday.

Rockies | Justin Morneau out vs. lefty

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 14:40:21 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is not in the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodger Friday, April 17. C/1B Wilin Rosario is starting at first base and batting fourth.

Fantasy Tip: Typically, Rosario ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is a nice daily option against southpaws, but Clayton Kershaw isn't your typical lefty. It would be wise to avoid both Rosario and Morneau in all fantasy formats Friday.

Rockies | Justin Morneau out Friday

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 10:11:17 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs left-handed SP Travis Wood Friday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: In Morneau's place, Wilin Rosario ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is a pretty attractive FantasyScore piece at the catcher position. Rosario's value in standard leagues takes a hit now that he's basically a utility player, but he's worth a shot for his power at Coors Field Friday against a lefty.

Rockies | Justin Morneau in the lineup

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 22:19:09 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau (neck) was in the lineup Wednesday, April 8, against the Milwaukee Brewers one day after leaving the game after an errant throw to the neck.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau was hitless in four at-bats and he has just one hit in 13 at-bats so far this season. Avoid him at $4,400 (or 8.8% of cap) in FantasyScore until he re-discovers his hitting stroke.
