He also said Friday, Jan. 27, that he still cannot feel his left index finger, and it might take two years. He said he should be able to take live batting practice at the start of spring training, however.
Wed, 25 Jan 2012 12:38:10 -0800 Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he's unsure if he will have 1B Justin Morneau (concussion) for opening day, but he is willing to try anything to keep both Morneau and C Joe Mauer in the lineup together this season. "Whatever it takes to keep (Morneau) and Mauer on the field is what we're going to do. And I don't care what that entails - if it's Mauer at first and Mornie DH-ing, we're going to do it. Whatever we feel comfortable with is the way we're going to go about our business here."

"I wouldn't say the head's perfect yet," he said. "I'm not going to declare that until I go through fielding ground balls, playing catch, taking batting practice, doing all the baseball stuff. But what I was able to do today is miles ahead of where I was at this time last year."

"I don't even want to talk about a backup plan because right now I'm encouraged the way he's going about his business," Ryan said. "There is no backup plan because we've got a first baseman we're counting on here." Ryan said Morneau is likely to start swinging a bat in the next week or two.

"Most days, I wake up I feel pretty good," Morneau said. "Usually after I get done - I really exert myself, really working out hard - after a long day, your brain gets tired and everything gets so worn down. It's not functioning the way it's supposed to be, and you kind of get done with the day and you go, 'Something's not right.' And you end up going home and taking a nap for a couple hours or whatever it is, and you wake up and the headache's still there and you kind of grind through it." He has been taking part in balance exercises that will help him slowly work his way back to baseball activities. Morneau is hoping to be ready for spring training.

He never played after Aug. 28, when he lunged for a ball down the first-base line and landed on his left shoulder. He didn't hit his head on the ground, but he jarred himself and felt a headache and fogginess the next day. Morneau hasn't been the same player since a concussion ended his 2010 season.
Thu, 17 Nov 2011 09:22:49 -0800 The Minnesota Twins will pursue options at first base this winter in case 1B Justin Morneau (concussion, wrist, knee) isn't able to play many games at the position next season. Either way, the Twins will likely use Morneau as the designated hitter often. Free-agent 1B Derrek Lee (Pirates) could be an option, or OF Michael Cuddyer could play first base if he is re-signed. INF Chris Parmelee is another in-house option.
Sat, 01 Oct 2011 11:35:14 -0700 Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau (wrist) underwent a stabilization procedure on the tendon in the back of his left wrist Friday, Sept. 30. He will be in a cast for six weeks and is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
