Rockies | Michael Cuddyer has inflamed disc

Mon, 13 May 2013 17:09:32 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer's (neck) MRI exam showed an inflamed cervical disc in his neck, but there was no other damage found in his neck. He received an epidural injection to relieve pain in his neck, and he's expected to resume light baseball activities this week. OF Charlie Blackmon will be in the lineup for the second straight night Monday, May 13. The team is optimistic that Cuddyer can return after a short rehab assignment. He's eligible to come off the disabled list May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Blackmon is worth a look in deep mixed formats in the short term while he's playing, but Eric Young Jr. has better skills (mainly speed) to warrant a pickup in those leagues.

Rockies | Michael Cuddyer to receive injection

Mon, 13 May 2013 13:55:05 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer's (neck) MRI exam showed no new issues with his neck, and he'll receive an epidural injection.

Fantasy Tip: Charlie Blackmon was called up Sunday, and he received the start. Eric Young Jr. should see increased playing time as well, and the two could form some sort of platoon with Cuddyer out. Young, if he plays often enough, could be a big boost for mixed league owners looking for some speed.

Rockies | Michael Cuddyer to be placed on DL

Sat, 11 May 2013 16:30:06 -0700

The Colorado Rockies will place OF Michael Cuddyer (neck) on the 15-day disabled list because of a bulging disc. The team will recall OF Charlie Blackmon from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take his roster spot.

Fantasy Tip: Cuddyer was off to a very good start this season but has been dealing with neck issues throughout his career. Owners should look to place him on their disabled list or bench until he return. Blackmon probably will see playing time while he is up with the Rockies and could be an option in NL-only leagues.

Rockies | Michael Cuddyer dinged up

Fri, 10 May 2013 15:24:59 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (neck) said his neck has "locked up," but he doesn't think he'll need to go on the disabled list. He's dealing with a disc problem and is listed as day-to-day for now. "This is something I've dealt with since 2004," Cuddyer said. "When this happens, it locks me up. I can't turn my neck, and it makes it very difficult to play."

Fantasy Tip: He says it's not too serious now, but given Cuddyer's age, this is an injury could easily linger and put him on the disabled list. In deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats, keep Eric Young Jr. handy, especially if you are hurting for stolen bases.

Rockies | Expected to add Ryan Wheeler

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 14:10:37 -0700

The Colorado Rockies are expected to call up 3B Ryan Wheeler Thursday, April 25, after 1B Todd Helton (forearm) has missed the last five games with a sore left forearm. Helton could land on the disabled list. Wheeler is hitting .348 with six extra-base hits in 15 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Fantasy Tip: Jordan Pacheco and Michael Cuddyer have been splitting time at first base with Helton sidelined, and that's expected to continue if Helton lands on the DL. Wheeler will likely just be used for infield depth, so he'll only carry value in NL-only formats.

Rockies | Todd Helton to return

Wed, 09 Jan 2013 13:34:01 -0800

Colorado Rockies 1B Todd Helton (hip), at age 39, will return for another season. Helton has put his surgically repaired hip through "way more violent" activities during training, and he is confident he will be able to swing a bat. He expects to be ready for the start of the regular season, which means he likely won't play many games in spring training. Helton expects to play first base on a regular basis. OFs Michael Cuddyer and Tyler Colvin and 3B Jordan Pacheco could all spell Helton at first from time to time.

Phillies | Looking for a corner outfielder

Fri, 07 Dec 2012 09:02:51 -0800

The Philadelphia Phillies are still searching for a power-hitting corner outfielder, and they are interested in free-agent OF Cody Ross (Red Sox). If Philadelphia prefers the trade route, they could try to land Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano, Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer or Arizona Diamondbacks OF Jason Kubel.
