Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (elbow) was in the lineup at first base Tuesday, April 15, one day after leaving a game with a bruised elbow. Cuddyer bruised his elbow when he crashed into the wall Monday, April 14.

Colorado Rockies OF Charlie Culberson is considered the only backup infielder on the roster, although manager Walt Weiss noted that C Jordan Pacheco has played third base, first and second; OF Michael Cuddyer is also the backup first baseman, and he has played second and third in the majors.

Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer is not worried about his low spring batting average. "Health is No. 1, and I want to feel good - my legs feel good around the bases and stuff," Cuddyer said Monday, March 17. "The least of my worries is how I feel at the plate and all that stuff. After another 500 or so at-bats, that stuff will work itself out."

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (shoulder) said Wednesday, March 5, that he should be back in a couple of days. "It's only a bruise," Cuddyer said. "I should be back in a couple of days. Where he hit me in the scapula, I couldn't lift my arm. But I am able to do that now. It's just really sore."

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (hand) does not look like he suffered a fractured left hand after getting hit by a pitch Wednesday, March 5. He will be further examined to determine the extent of the injury.

Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (hand) left the game early after being hit by a pitch in the hand Wednesday, March 5.

Fantasy Tip: It appeared as if Cuddyer was hit by a breaking ball, and he lobbied to stay in the game. The injury doesn't look to be very serious, and the Rockies likely removed him as a precaution.

Colorado Rockies C Wilin Rosario will see work at first base this spring, even though the team can use OF Michael Cuddyer there to spell 1B Justin Morneau against tough left-handed pitchers during the season. Rosario started at first three times last year and made two errors there.

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss said he's strongly leaning toward batting OF Michael Cuddyer second in the lineup this year. "It is very likely. It reminds me of when we had Ellis there," Weiss said. "I talked to him about it this winter. I like the idea of having such a powerful hitter there when the lineup turns over. Cuddy is a proven run producer." OF Carlos Gonzalez is also a candidate to hit second, but he won't be a leadoff candidate.
