Thoracic outlet syndrome is a pinching of the vein responsible for returning blood from the arm to the heart. The surgery involved a first rib resection and venous bypass. Bonderman likely will miss the rest of the season.

Bonderman, who left in the second inning after giving up six earned runs, was to have an MRI exam later in the day. "I'm done for awhile," said Bonderman, who also felt the injury was similar to lateral elbow soreness he experienced two years ago that limited him to just two September starts. Bonderman also said he is "scared" and "nervous" about the pending results of the MRI exam.
