Dodgers | Carl Crawford to sit against Rays

Tue, 03 May 2016 14:21:25 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford will not start in any of the games against the Tampa Bay Rays this week, according to manager Dave Roberts. The Dodgers are taking a cautious approach with five games on turf this week.

Fantasy Tip: The aging and injury-prone Crawford just recently came off a DL stint for a back issue, so this makes complete sense. It's unfortunate he won't get to face his old team, but it is what it is. That'll likely mean more starts for Enrique Hernandez, moving his short-term value up a tick. While he's struggling lately at the plate, he could make for a sleeper value pick in daily games tonight hitting leadoff.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig returns after a day off

Sun, 01 May 2016 12:24:19 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is in the lineup Sunday, May 01, against San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz and will bat leadoff. The Dodgers will get a host of other regulars a day off, however, as 2B Chase Utley, C Yasmani Grandal, OF Carl Crawford and OF Joc Pederson are not starting. In their place, OF Enrique Hernandez will occupy left field and bat second, 2B/3B Howie Kendrick will play second base and hit fifth, OF Trayce Thompson will spell Pederson in center and bat sixth, and C A.J. Ellis will catch and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Puig is mired in a 7-for-51 slump since the middle of April following a hot start and is probably needs to be benched in most leagues for now, although manager Dave Roberts is obviously showing a lot of faith in his struggling slugger by batting him leadoff today. Utley is getting a rest day and has cooled slightly after batting over .300 for most of April, but he should be inserted back in lineups Tuesday when the Dodgers hit the road to face the Tampa Bay Rays.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford to have starts limited

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 16:09:25 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford isn't expected to play more than three or four times per week because of his injury history, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford's injury history is extensive, and he just returned from a stint on the DL this week. He's likely to platoon with Enrique Hernandez and maybe even Howie Kendrick, so Crawford should only be owned and used in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford returns to lineup

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:39:12 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) has returned from the disabled list and is starting in left field and batting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: The aging Crawford returns from his latest DL stint, and he figures to have the strong end of a platoon in left field with Enrique Hernandez and possibly even Howie Kendrick at times. Crawford's injuries the last several seasons have facilitated a decline in his power and speed numbers. He's really only worth rostering these days in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford will be activated Tuesday

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:23:04 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) said he will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Through his first three seasons with the Dodgers, Crawford owns an underwhelming .286/.328/.414 slash line and only played 290 games. He projects to enter a timeshare with Enrique Hernandez, and Crawford will likely see the lion's share of playing time because he'll face right-handed hurlers. The platoon limits the upside of both outfielders, though, and Crawford doesn't warrant ownership outside of deep mixed leagues.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford to come off DL on Monday

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 12:36:05 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) is expected to rejoin the team on Monday, April 25. Crawford, who will complete his minor-league rehab assignment on Sunday, April 24, has not seen the field since the third game of the season due to lower back soreness.

Fantasy Tip: The emergence of Enrique Hernandez has softened the blow of the Dodgers losing Andre Ethier and Crawford early on, but the team will be happy to get Crawford, a left-handed hitter, back into a platoon with right-handed Hernandez, who thrives against southpaws. Because both players figure to be part-timers, it is difficult to recommend either one outside of DFS and leagues that allow daily lineup changes.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford continues rehab

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 23:04:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBIs in a minor-league rehab game with Class AAA Oklahoma City Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford is hitting .375 in his rehab stint and appears primed and ready to return to the big club Monday barring any setbacks. He is expected to work in a platoon in left field, and is therefore best used in NL-only fantasy play and as a mid-tier DFS option when he is in the starting lineup.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford to rejoin team Monday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 16:48:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) will rejoin the team Monday, April 25, after a minor league rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford's return Monday will give the Blue more options in left field and at second base. Stay tuned for how playing time is divvied up for Crawford, Enrique Hernandez, Howie Kendrick and Chase Utley. Crawford's injuries in recent years have made him a shell of his former self in the power and speed departments, and a possible platoon role limits his fantasy value to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford could be delayed

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 00:25:48 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) could be delayed coming off the disabled list. He was supposed to come off the DL Sunday, April 24, but Crawford had flight issues heading to Oklahoma City and did not get a chance to play on Wednesday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford needs some time to get acclimated. If he is delayed, weekly leagues could suffer the most. Daily leagues might benefit from Crawford's return delay, if there is one. He could step into a platoon role in left field right away, but Crawford may not get a ton of at-bats.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford ready for rehab stint

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 13:17:30 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) will play at Class AAA Oklahoma City for a minor league rehab stint before he joins the Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford has had trouble staying on the field, but if he can stay healthy through this rehab stint Crawford could fit into left field in some sort of platoon role. Enrique Hernandez and his 1.138 on base plus slugging mark could see a reduction in playing time as well. See how things shake out before making a decision on what to do. Crawford's value may be in daily formats.
