The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Lawrence Phillips will go to trial on charges that he attacked his girlfriend in 2005. A San Diego judge ruled Wednesday, April 29, that Phillips must stand trial on eight felony charges for two alleged assaults. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted. Phillips is already serving a 10-year sentence for hitting three teenagers with his car in Los Angeles.

The sentencing was repeatedly delayed while he fought to withdraw a guilty plea in a domestic abuse case that could have led to a stiffer sentence. Phillips was convicted in 2006 of seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

The judge dismissed two counts of child abuse and one count of leaving the scene of an accident stemming from the Aug. 21, 2005, incident on a South Los Angeles soccer field. Phillips faces more than 13 years in prison if convicted of all counts, said Deborah Brazil, a deputy district attorney.

The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Lawrence Phillips was arrested Sunday, Aug. 21, after allegedly running his car into three teenagers who argued with him during a pickup football game, police said. Phillips was already wanted by police for a domestic violence investigation. As previously reported, police had been seeking Phillips since earlier this month for allegedly attacking his girlfriend twice, once choking her into unconsciousness, they said. Phillips joined a group of 16- and 17-year-olds in a pickup football game today. Phillips got into an argument with several of the teens, said Los Angeles Police Officer Sandra Escalante. He left the park, but returned and drove a black Honda onto the field, allegedly running into three teenage boys, she said. The teenagers were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

10News.com reports authorities announced a $1,000 reward Thursday, Aug. 18, for information on the whereabouts of former NFL RB Lawrence Phillips. He is wanted in connection with several domestic violence cases. He is being sought by police in San Diego and Los Angeles. Phillips allegedly has resisted arrest and once told an officer, "There is no way you're going to arrest me," SDPD Lt. Kathy Healey said. "Phillips is in outstanding physical condition," the lieutenant said. "He should be considered dangerous." He had been arrested seven months earlier at his Beverly Hills home after authorities responded to a domestic violence call there.

The Associated Press reports former NFL and CFL RB Lawrence Phillips missed a recent court date because Canadian officials wouldn't let him enter the country, his mother said Wednesday, March 10. Phillips was twice stopped at a New York-Quebec border crossing while attempting to enter the country to answer to sexual assault charges. Canadian customs officials pulled Phillips off a Greyhound bus Wednesday and denied him entry because he lacked a proper visa. Phillips attempted to enter Canada for a March 2 court appearance, but was turned away at the border, according to Phillips' mother, Juanita Phillips. Phillips was charged with assault, sexual assault and uttering death threats against his Montreal girlfriend. He was released on $1,000 bail on Dec. 5. Phillips was then forced to leave Canada because his work visa expired.

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports former NFL RB Lawrence Phillips signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL Sunday, 2.5 weeks after being released by the Montreal Alouettes for failing to meet behavior standards. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.
