Updating previous reports, the Denver Broncos have announced WR Charlie Adams failed a physical with the Dallas Cowboys. Thus, Adams has reverted back to the Broncos and the Cowboys will not lose an undisclosed draft choice in 2007.

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports the Denver Broncos obtained a sixth-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for WR Charlie Adams. He probably would have had a difficult time making Denver's roster. However, in Dallas, he could be the No. 4 receiver.

"I think I did well but there's a lot of plays out there I could have made that I didn't make," Adams said. "I think I did okay. Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Domenik Hixon could add competition for the roles of kickoff returner and punt returner. CB Darrent Williams is at the top of the list on the kickoff and punt return teams, with WR Charlie Adams behind him. During the 2005 season, Williams started at cornerback and was the team's top returner. After he essentially missed the final four games of the regular season last year, there was concern whether the dual roles were too much for him. Williams said, "I haven't heard any of that coming from the coaches. It was a freak accident. A dude grabbed my leg and I tried to spin out of a tackle. So I don't think it was my body wearing down. It was just, injuries happen in this game. Return is something I like to do."

He's now playing behind WR Charlie Adams and WR Todd Devoe, both undrafted free agents. The Broncos want to see how Watts responds and would like to see him battle back into the lineup. Week 7 was the first time Watts was inactive for a game in his career.

He has, however, seen some work as the No. 3 receiver in practice recently and even saw some work with the starters in the team's previous preseason game. While he has shown some big-play ability on punt returns, he also has not been able to take over as a starter there.

Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan said the competition is wide open for the team's No. 3 thru No. 5 wide receiver spot. "Our third, fourth and fifth spot - There are some question marks there. We do have some great depth there and hopefully some of those guys will step up. The obvious ones are Darius Watts although we know what he can do. He just has to be a little more consistent with catching the ball. Darius is going to get open and he can run the ball after the catch. I think we all know what Jerry Rice has done throughout his career. Can Jerry stay at that level, to help us produce and get to the next level? We have Triandos Luke, Charlie Adams and we have a lot of guys that we feel are very competitive. Now we just take a look at them on a day-to-day basis and throughout these preseason games to see how they do."

DenverBroncos.com reports Denver Broncos wide receivers coach Steve Watson had nothing but positive things to say about WR Charlie Adams and the progress he's observed from the young receiver on the field so far this year. "Charlie is invaluable to our team in the sense that we've been able to take Charlie and put him in just about every position on the field," Watson said. "He's been our utility guy. He's extremely bright, a very sharp kid and Charlie is having a very good quarterback camp. He's playing real well, beating people and he's doing a lot of really good things out there. I think he's about as healthy as he's ever been too, plus he got contact lenses which I think is really going to help him."

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos veteran WR Rod Smith is enjoying his role as tutor in a camp filled with young wide receivers this year. "There's a lot of guys and they're working their butts off, and I'm doing my best to try and help them and try to give them opportunity to make the football team," Smith said. "It's a dream for them to get the chance to play on Sundays. I'm going to try and help them fulfill that dream."
