Updating an earlier story, the AP reports Detroit Lions OT Stockar McDougle (left knee) will likely be out of action for 2 to 3 weeks. ``It's a little worse than we expected,'' coach Marty Mornhinweg said Tuesday morning after the first of two practices. Kerlin Blaise will take McDougle's place at right tackle.

Rice left the workout to obtain X-rays on his left big toe, and he will be further evaluated by team doctors. According to Curt Sylvester of the Free Press, the Detroit Lions will be closely looking at their offensive line and for a third-down back at this weekend's mini-camp. Currently it appears rookie Jeff Backus and last year's No. 1 pick, Stockar McDougle, will line up at tackle. OL Aaron Gibson (shoulder surgery) will not practice. Matt Joyce and Kerlin Blaise will see action at left guard. RBs Amp Lee, Lamont Warren, Sedrick Irvin and Reuben Droughns are all expected to get a look at third-down back along with starting RB James Stewart.

According to Curt Sylvester of the Free Press, the Detroit Lions will probably not pursue QB Doug Flutie. He wants to be a starter and likely will demand a starter's pay. Sources close to C Mike Compton said he told agent Vern Sharbaugh his Lions days are over. He reportedly is interested in playing in Carolina, Jacksonville or Washington. The team tendered offers to three restricted free agents, DB Lamar Campbell, C Eric Beverly and G Kerlin Blaise. The team wants to re-sign G Tony Semple and special-teams player Brock Olivo. Unrestricted free agents, RB Mario Bates, OT Barrett Brooks, QB Stoney Case and CB Marquis Walker probably won't be re-signed.
