Terry Pluto, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini believes DL Shaun Rogers can be a leader of the team's defense because he has the intelligence and charisma to inspire teammates while making the proper reads on different plays. Although Rogers came to the team last summer with the reputation of being moody and out of shape, he has been in football shape and responsive to coaching in Cleveland.

Updating a previous report, Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns DT Shaun Rogers has asked for his release because he was snubbed by new head coach Eric Mangini on two occasions. Another reason is the team told him not to show up for the their offseason program unless he was at a prescribed weight. Rogers was upset at the directive because he was able to maintain his required weight during the entire season in 2008.

Adam Schefter, of NFL.com, reports Cleveland Browns DL Shaun Rogers has grown so disgruntled with the team that he has asked the Browns not to pick up the $6 million option-bonus payment due to him next month, a source close to Rogers said. Rogers would rather be released after one season with the Browns, despite still being owed another $15 million in guaranteed money. The Browns have no intention of releasing Rogers, as doing so would count for over $9.7 million against their salary cap.
