Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice wants to look for a new offensive tackle as he feels rookie OT Bryant McKinnie may not sign this year. "I'm going to get me a tackle," Tice said Saturday. "It could happen as soon as Tuesday. I'm moving on. Right now, I don't think McKinnie is even coming in this year. It doesn't look good." They may sign an available free agent such as John Fina, Matt Campbell, Ben Coleman or Robert Hicks. The Vikings and McKinnie's agents did not communicate Saturday after McKinnie's agents, Jim Steiner and Ben Dogra, refused the Vikings final offer on Friday.

The Houston Chronicle reports Houston Texans starting LT Tony Boselli and backup DB Toya Jones sat out the team's first on-field practice Wednesday, because they are coming off injuries. Several players were limited in their participation, OTs Ryan Young and Robert Hicks and DT Jason Nikolao. The practice was done in jerseys and helmets, but not in pads.

Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the Houston Texans have reached contract agreements with two more players, DE Devon Finn and S Kevin Williams. Finn was in the Miami training camp this summer. Williams spent the first three seasons of his career with the New York Jets. As previously reported earlier in the week, the Texans are believed to be close on deals with QB Mike Quinn and OL Robert Hicks and Jerry Wisne.

The Houston Chronicle reports the Houston Texans are moving closer to signing their first batch of free agents. GM Charley Casserly said the team should have as many as 10 players signed by the end of the week. Casserly would neither confirm nor deny the names of any potential Texans, but several sources said QB Mike Quinn, DB Kevin Williams and OL Robert Hicks and Jerry Wisne are among the players with whom the Texans are negotiating. The Texans are reprtedly still is in the running for former Stanford QB Chad Hutchinson.

Allen Wilson of the Buffalo News reports for the Sporting News Buffalo Bills rookie OT Jonas Jennings appears to be the leading candidate to win the starting right tackle position. He has been impressive in training camp, displaying good strength, quickness and agility. Kris Farris, the early favorite to win the job, has been working on the left side as a backup to John Fina. Farris is still in the running to start on the right side along with veterans Robert Hicks and Jon Carman. Carman suffered a sprained foot recently which will impact his practice time.

The Buffalo News reports the starting right tackle position will be watched closely in training camp by the Buffalo Bills coaching staff. Free-agent pickup Kris Farris appears to be the favorite going into camp having had a solid mini-camp. However, Robert Hicks plans to give him a battle after recuperating from off-season knee surgery. Also in the mix is second year OL Jon Carman, who was the most improved player this off-season, according to Williams.

The Buffalo News reports Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Robert Hicks, who fell out of favor with the coaching staff and lost his starting job last year, is looking at this year as a clean slate for him to start over. He has a chance to reclaim his starting job at right tackle, but is expected to be given some competition on the front line this year from Kris Ferris and rookies Jonas Jennings and Marques Sullivan.

The Buffalo News reports Buffalo Bills OT Robert Hicks is looking to get back into the starting lineup in 2001. He will battle with Jon Carman and Kris Farris at right tackle. Last year after being demoted by former offensive line coach Carl Mauck, Hicks became discouraged and didn't play with the desire he displayed in his first two seasons. A new Hicks has now emerged, one with more confidence and a commitment to be better. "I know I can be one of the best offensive linemen in this league. I just have to believe in myself and do the things I know I have to do. I do know that I need to keep getting better." said Hicks.

The Buffalo News reports WR Eric Moulds has been added to the Buffalo Bills' injury report. He sat out of practice yesterday with a sore back, as did WR Andre Reed (ribs). However, both players are expected to play this weekend. In other news, RB Antowain Smith (turf toe) and OL Robert Hicks (ankle) practiced on a limited basis again yesterday. Hicks says he's playing this weekend, but the team hasn't given him the thumbs-up sign yet. A decision on their status for this weekend could come after practice today, but they're likely game time decisions. RB Jonathan Linton is likely to start at tailback again this week.
